  • the exact number lou was hoping to sign rosario for was 5/75. he just got traded for a washed up thor with a 7 era. that amed rosario elvis andrus combo would have been deadly. Also advocated for trading eury for bryan reynolds who has a .753 OPS this year.

Here was my exact quote re: Rosario and then reynolds for eury in january- "Ya that's a ridiculous post. Eury is untouchable. And he needs to get off the rosario hype train. He's a thoroughly mediocre hitter and graded out negatively defensively in 3 of the 5 years he's played full seasons. To give him 15 million would be incredibly dumb. He is just 26, but for his career he's a 95 WRC+, and has graded out negatively both defensively and offensively for his entire career. He doesnt have much power, he doesnt get on base, he doesnt walk at all, he's not a prolific base stealer. Enough of it. If you can get him for cheap next year because of his proximity to free agency, sure, but he's not some guy you trade and give an enormous extension to. He doesnt have a single elite trait. 15 Million for a guy who is a decent player, about 2 WAR per year, from the marlins perspective, is dumb. That's not a guy you give up Garrett and Burdick for and then pay 15 million a year. If he was under control for 3+ years, sure, but as a pending free agent, that's bad business."

Yea that would have been a good deal for a guy coming off 2, 2.3, and 2.5 WAR seasons before turning 27. That's the kind of bets you make and you win more of those than you lose. You also don't even do your revisionist history right as I wanted to get more pitching from Cleveland (X. Curry in particular to be exact as I remember that) in hypothetical deals because I figured they'd need more right handers. Which is a little right, but Brazoban, Soriano, and Hoeing have been pretty OK. You also bet $3m on veteran SS who just posted 3.5 WAR seasons every time. Guys get hurt, guys don't work out. You'll get that one day.

And the amount of Reynold trades ideas would be exhausting, but let's not play monday morning quarterback (and how sad is it you go back to not prove a point?) when nearly everyone would have traded nearly everything for a Pirates package. Eury was also discussed reluctantly always. And I remind you, from what I recall, I thought the best trade was to send Eder, Meyer/Cabrera (i.e. a lefty and a right), and Cappe/Watson over as the core package, with an assortment of FV40 guys, and take back Reynolds, Bednar, and Brubaker. Those are the three guys I think would have been smart AF for them to do.

Rosario doesnt have a single elite tool. Andrus was again, defensive war, who was not good for several years before. You wanted him as some lefty masher when he has never been that. The point is not to go back and bring up past mistakes. The point is that you consistently act as if you cannot be wrong when discussing things despite consistently proposing awful ideas and then take 0 time to go back and acknowledge how wrong you are almost every offseason. All while acting smug as shit and belittling others for, god forbid, questioning your ideas.

This was also a doozy comparing berti to arraez- The issue is you continue to try to make arraez out to be a slightly better version of berti/rojas/wendle when he is significantly better than any of them have ever been. - >>> How do you reconcile this with Berti was better PA to PA than Arraez last year, as well as Wendle PA to PA better than him in 2021 (as well as 2018 but that was a long time ago)

and this about arraez- Are we so desperate as marlins fans we will do backflips to fit any good player into the lineup? Even a 2B?

I think that bat plays at 1b, but that's just me.

            • The Angels just paid their #2 (a top 100 prospect overall) and #3 prospects to rent Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez. Let’s hope the market isn’t that tough.

              • We’re interested in Tim Anderson. He can’t cost much and he’s picked it up lately and he has a decent option for next year. Id be all for it. Wouldn’t cost much other than Bruce opening his wallet and there is a high ceiling there

Scratching my head over Dane Myers. Did nothing but hit the ball hard in AAA and through a couple weeks with Marlins. Then, about eight games back, stopped hitting entirely despite facing a bunch of 6 ERA pitchers (0-17 with 8 K). Just don't get it.

minor league stats need to be taken with context. He had no scouting report and he’s a good hitter. When teams adjusted, they attacked his weaknesses. He will go down and work on them and come back better.

He hit a ball to dead center on Sunday that probably had a .900 expected batting average and some dude made the catch of his life. It would have been a triple.

their number 2 prospect was top 100 before the year but has struggled this year and their #1 guy is also a catcher. They also have a bad overall system. It's a big price but giolito is a great pitcher and this is their last chance to make a run with ohtani. It seems like a little bit of desperation but they are poorly run and also need to make 1 more attempt to win with ohtani.

Them having trout and ohtani for years while also not being remotely competitive is kind of impressive.

                        • jacob berry has quietly started to play a lot better since the beginning of june. maybe teams still value him in a trade or maybe he still becomes a 1b of the future by the middle of next year. Seems a lot like Bleday and Moran though. Can we please stop drafting all bat college hitters?

                          • we really need a sweep this weekend. The phillies schedule lightens up a lot over the next few weeks. The giants are apparently after a big name pitcher like verlander. Be interesting to see what the dbacks and reds do by the deadline.

My dude, I hope you can appreciate the irony of what is actually happening here going back hundreds of posts on a Weds. night and posting out of context blurbs to try and bolster yourself. This is sad. I wanted Andrus because he historically hits lefties enough with his defensive ability. You are just misconstruing statements at this point. I maintain the organization needs another everyday infielder (you know, someone like Edmand and Candelario) and sorry, but my opinion is I would take a bet off a long standing solid vet with typically a high floor defense coming off a 3.5 WAR season for $3m every time. Berti and Wendle are also really solid players and produce a lot of defensive value. Berti additionally (historically) on the bases. There is the reasons the Marlins are "alright" this year because these collection of role players do have value you know. There is also a significant difference between having a 4+ WAR 2B and a 3+ WAR 1B, especially with what one can sign in FA where corner bats are typically more available, but I'm not going to keep repeating myself just to be ad hominem attacked. I remind you my first instinct after the Arraez trade was to sign him immediately for 5 years, even if there was the inevitability coming he would have shift defensively.

Yep, that is effectively Cappe and Reynolds sort of return. It's why I have argued if its going to be this expensive, just do it early June so you get more benefit in playing time. They should have blown teams away 6+ weeks ago. Or just signed guys in December. Same old same old.
