Observation watching the 2nd half that I didn’t think I’d say before the season.

This team really misses Andrew Nardi.

Nardi is yet another guy who was supposed to miss minimal time and clearly isn’t

They have horrific starting pitching. Their lineup is great. And their manager sucks.

Acquiring a right-handed reliever (or 2 or 3) seems like something that could be done soon without giving up much. Shouldn’t have to wait 2 weeks for that one.

We have Floro, Hoeing, and Cueto in the pen right now, and I think Robert Garcia (?) or whatever his name is, is still on the roster.

I don’t think Brazoban’s been bad overall, but there’s no way he should be the best right-handed reliever on a playoff contender.

I really don’t care that he’s been a bit better lately. Jean Segura still has no business playing every day, and is, overall, terrible.

3B is still a need on the team. Would be really nice to see Glass Chisholm back in CF, moving Dane to 3B.

Cooper just bailed him out again. Cooper and Gurriel have bailed him out a bunch of times.

The Arraez double play messed up the top of the 9th. Everything that went our way in the 1st half not going our way the last 4 games.

Based on what everyone collectively thinks, they need a catcher, shortstop, third baseman, outfielder, starting pitcher, and multiple right handed relievers. They don't have the trade assets (and/or money) to do all of that as is, plus obviously some of their current guys have contracts and won't just DFA them. Floro has a xFIP of 3.06 and Segura and Stallings have been better lately. Chargois and Brazoban are also very solid for effectively your 6th and 7th relievers with xFIPs at or just below 4.00 and they probably are a little better than that. I just don't see them moving on from these guys and will chalk up things to small sample size fluctuations. Don't confuse me from saying you are wrong, I am merely saying I can't see them moving on from these guys and accomplishing a full wish-list.

Ignoring rapidly losing is going to impact their motivation to make the large moves they need, I imagine they might add 2-3 guys and just pray Dane holds up, or maybe Edwards is up shortly and those are "2" of the "3" bat upgrades we've been banging our heads against walls for since March. I'm anticipating them being so cheap about this it hurts when they should have gone all-in a month ago, and that ignores they should have just got the 2 more bats this offseason ala Correa/Nimmo/Swanson and someone else. I imagine they are secretly salivating at the idea of trading Soler, Wendle, Cooper, Scott, etc. There is still plenty of time to become sellers if they drop 7 of 10 and recoup a few more Edwards, DLC, Groshans, and Amayas so they can not spend money again in FA next year.

But win 7 of 10 and all is forgiven quickly heading to a crucial Phillies series. That's 6 against Rocks/Tigers at home, and 4 against Cards/Rays and Sandy gets two of those four for him to really decide he is going to carry the team again. We shall see.

Yea but they need to win some of these games. Starting July 31st, they play 11/14 series against contenders, and one of the non-contenders is @ San Diego who has a +36 run differential and we know how they historically do on the west coast. God bless those two Nationals series in that stretch.

It would be really great if they could run up the score on the 13 games against the Rocks, Tigers, and Nationals coming up before the September stretch with 9 of those coming at home.
