Nationals are going to make a package of something and get a better guy for Candelario here if they are smart. Gonna need to get Eder on the table and get Thomas and/or Harvey back to get ahead of other offers. Astros/Phillies have a lot of young OF to move that likely trump the Marlins secondary guys, and the DBacks have some better than Vargas 18 year olds to juice packages. That may be the main competition.

Candelario, Thomas (and extend Candelario for 2-3 years)
Eder, Fulton, Mesa. Jr. Reynolds/comp pick

Something like that would be real hard for another team to beat and I like it with an extension to build in a legitimate IF bridge to ideally Cappe/Watson. They can afford to extend him. I think we'll survive with Luzardo(3 - extend him too), Rogers (3), Garrett (5), Puk (3), Nardi (5), Scott (1), Okert (3), and Monteverde (6) as the top 8 organizational lefties. That's a lot of control years and effectively would be set for at least three years with the 3 SP and 3 RP.

Would be great to do this in anticipation for 7/7 Phillies series as that is a potentially playoff deciding series with likely their main competition for last WC spot (I think this will be a nail biter for them t to get in). Do the trade, extend Arraez, Luzardo, Candelario, Eury, and Jazz this week, and imagine how pumped up that team is going to be. Let's run a business Bruce. You run a BUSINESS. This is good for business.
we will see at the deadline, but i think you are way overvaluing what the nationals are going to get for those guys. Candelario alone is going to fetch a 10-20 in a system prospect. Just look at the history of the deadline the last few years. soon to be free agents dont fetch top prospects. Obviously if you include thomas it will get pricier, but no way in hell will it be eder, fulton, mesa, and a 2nd rounder essentially. That's just not happening.

I do agree to go and get candelerio now though. No need to wait, give them what it takes and then do it one piece at a time and figure out the backup C, OF, and righty reliever afterwards.

    • Candelario, the 76th best overall position player in MLB since the start of 2021 making $2.5m the rest of the season so any contender can navigate the luxury tax around him making him more valuable to not implicate tax penalities for a real franchise, is definitely going to be worth a bunch of nothings below Groshans in value (9th on MLB). Throw-ins for everyone because only Marlins guys have value. My mistake.

show me the precedent for it. You're paying for 2 months of a player. go look at the deadlines of the last few years and tell me the precedent for him getting a top 100 prospect. ill wait.

        Look at

2022- Gallo to Dodgers deal, Brandon Drury deal, Tommy Pham, Benintendi, Vogelbach,
2021- Kris Bryant, Soler, Duvall, Schwarber, Rizzo, Nelson Cruz,
        2020 was the covid year
2019- Castellanos, Dickerson were really the only similar hitters dealt.

There is no precedent in recent history for a free agent to be in 2 months getting a top 100 prospect. They very rarely even get top 10 prospects in a system. Candelario by himself would be 1-2 guys in the 10-25 range in a system.

I think the price for Candelario will be steep because so many teams need him and so many teams believe they have a shot at the 3 WC spots. I’m ok with an overpay because of our brutal schedule ahead.

Agree on being fine overpaying, we’re in it and he’s an improvement. I’m just saying guys like that don’t cost top 100 guys. It will be like something around nasim nunez and then a guy in the 10s range like Miller or milbrandt. The price for baseball rentals at the deadline is not extreme. At least on the position player side. Pitchers get more

            • Trades starting to happen. Angels got the two guys last weekend, now the rangers get Chapman from

              • So who predicted we'd be 14-games over .500 on 6/30 facing the Braves and Brian Hoeing would be in the mound for us?

With sandy struggling (albeit logging a lot of innings) and jazz missing 6 weeks. Id think you were doing doc gooden and Daryl strawberry level of drugs if you told me that before the year

                  • Can you just imagine at this point if we took literally any of the other offers for realmuto? I really can’t blame the team because sixto was good and who the fuck could predict that the guy would not be seen for 3 full years after his debut, but just imagine this team with Austin riley or any of the other potential centerpieces in that trade. Kyle tucker was also the astros guy they either were offering or was rumored. Same with yelich. Like we traded the best c in baseball and a guy who won an mvp and got literally 0 mlb players in either deal 5 years later. Like not mlb players on our team. Literally mlb players at all. We got a guy who has literally disappeared since 2020 and a guy playing in Japan

Really good. Hitting 95. Average fastball coming into tonight was 93 this year and around that when he had last pitched years ago. If hoeing struggles early this will not be pretty tonight
