In fairness most of that was from his defense and that was primarily at 2B.

Even if he is ridiculously unlucky and hit at his normal level that bat still doesn't play at 3B.

It was kind of a weird signing then and still is.

I'm going to quib on two things on all of this, even if generally you aren't wrong.

A .650+ OPS with solid defense/base running is a fine infield backup at 3B and plays. Of course, he isn't showing the defense, but you are being a little too dismissive here. Berti has played more 3B for the Marlins than any other position and he lives in that OPS range and is very solid. If Segura can do that, he is fine, and it'll spike a little at 2B. I agree he should be playing against lefties at 2B and off days against right handers until he shows more - and maybe this HR wakes him up.

As for what they need, it's still a SS first and not a 3B/Segura replacement. Just kick him to the bench, even if 3B is his path to time. A legitimate 5 day a week SS would be a real game changer for them and they could effectively run out Arraez/Cooper, Wendle/Arraez, New SS/Berti, Berti/Segura as R/L platoons, with a lot of options with Berti kicking out to the OF and Cooper DH'ing also. It's why it's banging heads against the wall as to why they didn't sign one of the 4. Fucking cheap bastards

But yea, offense is really depressed so these lame .600 OPS hitters definitely play these days. A .750 OPS is the new .800 OPS to me. Reliever waves are killing hitter stats.

Hell, even the Mets and Phillies we’re 4-6 against this year.

Hell, even the Mets and Phillies we’re 4-6 against this year.

they've absolutely feasted on bad teams, but we've also held our own against most of the good teams we've played outside of the braves and the first week of the year against the mets. Taken 2 of 3 from the dbacks twice. took 2 of 3 from the giants. Swept the angels on the road. took 2 of 3 from the phillies on the road. took 2 of 3 from the twins. took 2 of 3 from the guardians. It's really just been the mets and the braves that have had our number. They are 3-11 against those 2 teams, 43-23 in the rest of the games this year.

This series this weekend will be telling. The braves lineup is completely absurd.

sandy's FIP is now 3.68. he's completed 7 innings in 4 of his 5 june starts. Supposedly he fixed something mechanically after the big inning in his last start so hopefully we get the normal sandy the rest of the way. being 12 over with him being our worst pitcher so far is a really good sign

we are now 15th in OPS, 6th in average (just .002 behind 3rd), 13th in obp, 19th in slugging. Jazz has barely played and segura has been awful. If those guys turn it around and stay healthy and we add 1 more bat, we're looking really good.

SP era is now 7th in the league, 7th in whip, 2nd in BAA, 3rd in k's.

garrett on the mound tonight and the sox dont even have a pitcher announced. Last time this spot in their rotation came up they pitched a bullpen guy who gave up 4 runs in the first inning. Need to win this one. then we got luzardo coming off a great outing tomorrow.
