  • Xavier Edwards 5-14 to start his career.

    • Fucking horseshit call there.

      • X Edwards should be an everyday player for the Marlins. Lots of tools and great plate discipline. You don't sit a player like that for the likes of Wendle, Segura or Hampson.

        • From 2020-2022, Segura averaged a wRC+ of 106
It’s 44 this year. For the most part, Miami is where productive bats come to die. Arraez being an obvious exception.

Yeah, it's crazy how just about everyone that comes here falls on their face.

To be fair, I think part of it is because we're always signing guys approaching the tail end of their careers since we refuse to spend on bigger FA's, but still, it's amazing how seemingly just about every player brought in flat out sucks hitting wise.

As well as not having depth/good lineup so they can be pitched around a bunch. Presently, Soler and DLC are the 2nd and 3rd best hitters on a team and they are probably 4th and 6th on a good team. Jazz out doesn't help, but not having those 2 better bats is a top to bottom issue of trickle down help with guys on base and more competitive PA, etc.

But still, Segura is a special bad. He and Stallings are bottom 6 in worst players in baseball. Sigh.

                • Craig Mish's son tweeted that he thinks the Marlins made a trade. He actually "broke" a deal once, and even though he's a little kid seems to be really into this stuff. If true, I wonder how big we're talking.

                  • So he was right that they made a trade, but it was not a big one, lol. Brady Allen for Jonathan Davis.

                        Supposedly he has great range.

                          • Is there a clause in Kim's contract that she's not able to acquire guys that can actually hit?

Seems to me to be more environment/development team. We’ve made dumb draft decisions, but the only guys we’ve actually acquired who can hit are from other teams like jazz, Arraez wasn’t hard but still a guy, soler, dlc, Cooper. Those kind of external guys are important, but you cannot just be completely unable to develop guys from draft/ifa to the majors, and in 6 years it hasn’t happened. Granted, she hasn’t been here the full 6 years, but something needs to change in regards to internal development.

Is it surprising they have three qualified guys in top 47 in batting average - Arraez (1), DLC (T-15), and Berti (T-47) and their team batting average is FOURTEENTH of all teams (.250!).

How the fuck do these guys have the fourteenth best batting average and historically low run totals? Is this when they say "Luck"?

                                Walks - 29th and a bad game to being 30th (6.8%)
                                Slugging - 22nd (.383)
                                Strikeouts - 17th (23.1%)
Base running (via FG) - 28th

So they don't walk, don't slug, and suck on the bases. They are chipping into the strikeouts though.

Another fun one. Tampa somehow has 94 HR and the Marlins have 43. JFC. A good team probably have 60+ bombs as of now showing how far ahead TB is.

And of course, Tampa is 2nd in base running.

                                Which brings me too....

Arraez is a terrible base runner so far, and so is Segura, DLC, and Stallings. Berti is also below average with Cooper. There is some positive regression coming here as Arraez is usually neutral and Berti close to the tops in the league. But another one of those "little things" the team is not doing well as a collective. They need to work on DLC as he has a solid sprint speed (59) and likely has room for improvement unlike Segura who is still quick (52nd) but is likely is who he is. Edwards is their third most valuable base runner in 16 PA is what I am saying in that LOL sample size. Jazz and Hampson are both very good which you'd expect. Soler, Garcia, Burdick, Wendle, Fortes, and even Yuli are neutral contributors.
