another big game tonight. Hopefully cabrera's better control is back again tonight. Alex wood seems to be on a pitch count in his first few starts. Only threw 71 and 75 in his first 2 starts. Giants bullpen so far is 27th in ERA so hopefully we will be patient and make him work. Now that i said that he will throw 7 scoreless on 50 pitches

Marlins bullpen is only 20th in ERA, but it feels like it's been much better. The Smeltzer and Lindgren appearances have inflated the overall numbers.
For hitters, our team OPS is now 23rd. Slugging 21st, OBP 26th. BA is 15th. Really bad, 26th in total walks. but we've dropped all the way down to 15th in k's. So really, the offseason plan has been relatively successful so far. Didnt add the 1 more big bat we needed, and the offense overall has been mediocre, but the added contact skills has helped produce more timely hits to win the close games along with the improved back end of the bullpen. I would say it's not sustainable, but i dont see the bullpen falling off, the rotation is not going to fall off, and the lineup did add a bunch of contact hitters, so they might have put together a team that wont wow you, but will be opportunistic and win the games they are in late a lot of times. Super interested to see how this year continues to evolve, and they clearly need 1 more bat, but the offseason plan (however flawed it was), does seem to have worked out the way they were hoping it would. Soler hitting a homer every time he comes up in a big spot in close games also doesnt hurt.
We are 3rd in the league in OPS in games that MLB.com defines as late/close. .994 OPS, tied for the lead league in those spots with 5 HR's, 4th in BA, 28th in walks! just 1 walk late and close.
Seems like a recipe that could be destined for serious regression perhaps, or maybe they built a team that wont wow you but will be opportunistic. Time will tell.

= 48.1 IP, 2.98 ERA, xFIP 4.13
But Team RP ERA is 4.27, xFIP 4.59
Everything is pretty fair right now, but I do think there are good omens as Scott/Barnes in a SSS are weighing down that top 7 by a lot (both have xFIPs over 5.6), the other 5 look pretty good, and Okert isn't around yet and he will be helpful. Plus Cueto causes a trickle down of a significant arm.
They probably creep into the high 3s in ERA and have upside for mid 3s if they all stay healthy. Basically, an average bullpen that might creep just inside the top 10 if all goes right.

jazz moved down to 6th tonight with the lefty on the mound. I was thinking they would move him down there full time until he starts swinging the bat better to take a little pressure off him, but id assume this is just for tonight with the lefty pitching.

Good to see him calm down a little, but at this point if cueto comes back any time soon and he’s still struggling with the command, it might be worth a trip down for a few starts to work on the command and the confidence in his stuff. No indication cueto is anywhere close though so it looks like Cabrera will work through it up here

Don't forget Nick Fortes minor league slash line: .236/.321/.340 Seems like a good guy and probably a decent backup catcher in the majors but I feel like we got way too excited off of his 14 game sample size in 2021 & lock him in as “the starter”
