the idea that they will be worse than last year absent a huge swath of crippling injuries is laughable. Look what it took to be that bad last year- Jazz missed 102 games. Soler missed 90 games. Garcia missed 64 games and had a horrific season. aguilar predictably fell off the map. Stallings had the worst season of his career. Cooper missed 43 games. Anderson missed 64 games. Rojas was playing with a fucked up wrist. Luzardo missed several months. Cabrera missed several months. About the only thing that went right last year was sandy staying healthy. This will be a high 70's, low 80s win team, with hopefully upside if they make the move they should for another bat and another bullpen arm.
Arraez and segura and health are going to help this offense a lot. They wont be a great offense obviously, but their additions will make the team better, plus garcia cant be as bad as he was last year. As long as they dont have huge swaths of injuries, this team will be better than last year. The question is how much better and if they do anything to the roster to make it better.
The bullpen is better, but they need 1 more right set up guy and they need to get rid of tanner scott. he should not be anywhere near close games. I dont care what the advanced analytics say about his potential if he learns control, he's not going to do it. It is painfully obvious every time he comes into a game that he is the renyel pinto of this generation of marlins teams. The guy has no fucking clue where he is throwing the ball.

Reynolds update:
The conceptual issue is indeed an opt-out clause, reports Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic. He adds that the two sides have come to an agreement around $106MM on the guarantee, roughly the middle point between the previous asking prices, but that Reynolds and his reps want an opt-out that the Pirates appear unwilling to give thus far.
So they've agreed on an amount......it may happen and he may be off the table altogether.

Opt out is tough here. Maybe they give him one after 3 years but he’s not Machado. Trying to hedge on getting a Nimmo deal next I imagine.

the minor league teams are starting to come together. I guess they go from the higher levels on down in terms of filling out the rosters. AAA has Edwards, Amaya, Burdick, Groshans, Leblanc, Jerar. Rotation is pretty terrible because they are giving Eury a few AA starts to begin the year. They have castano, Smeltzer, Hoeing, and maybe will stewart if he isnt a full time reliever.
AA has both Mesa's, catchers Banfield and Mcintosh, Nasim Nunez, and im guessing Conine. Rotation is ridiculous- Eury, Fulton, and eventually Eder plus Mccambley and MD johnson.
A+ has Mack, Berry, Watson, Cappe, and Morissette.
Lower minors pitching depth is bad. We desperately need 2-3 of these guys to break out this year
AAA and AA should have good bullpens. Soriano and simpson are in AAA, Nardi will likely be back down there once okert comes back, maybe sixto gets his shit together and is in AAA at some point. Sean reynolds has some potential and he looks to be AA's closer.Last edited by fish16; 03-31-2023, 02:53 PM.

I 100% support Reynolds demanding an opt-out for something that below market value. The Marlins may in fact not be the cheapest team in baseball. That is a pathetic deal for Pittsburgh.
