  • lewis brinson, judging on the curve of how god awful he had been the last 3 years, has been much improved this year. id like to see him in the lineup every day for the last 2 months and just see what he ends up hitting by the end of the year. his at bats are no longer painful to watch.

He is hitting .237/.267/.423 with an average BABIP while striking out in 1/3 of his ABs. He is still beyond awful.

      • I’ll always like Lewis Brinson more than Anthony Bass no matter how bad Brinson is

Since the start of may he has hit .269, .300 OBP, and .537 slugging with a wrc+ of 126. He has been a servicable hitter although he still has no walk rate whatsoever. Not saying he should have a job next year here but he has not been bad for the last few months at the plate and he has earned every day playing time the last two months over the other options. At the very least he could show whether he is at least an option to start in an OF spot next year if injuries occur during spring training.

          • luzardo wasnt great last night but the stuff is pretty clearly there. Give stottlemeyer some time with him and get that delivery and release point consistent to improve the control and command and he is a legit piece moving forward. He never had control issues coming up so maybe its a nerves/too much adrenaline thing in the majors or he just had such ridiculous stuff that he was able to overcome it vs lesser talent in the minors.

I'd like to see edward cabrera up here next very soon. He is ready and even if he struggles at least he gets those struggles out of the way the last few months of this year and gets an idea of how different MLB is and works on his weaknesses in the offseason to come back ready next year like Rogers did last year.

I came here this morning to ask "what do we have to do to get out from that 2nd year of his contract?" can we DFA him ?(but we still have to pay him right ?)

almost 900 at bats as a Marlin, and he's had a few better at bats lately....you just won't give it up will you ?

as I said, it's not to look for him as a long term piece,, its because he has performed far better than every other option and he has legitimately earned the starting job given the rest of the options. tell me where I'm wrong in that statement and let me know who should be getting every day at bats over him at this point.

                  • It is ridiculous that Brinson is still getting ABs for us at this point, but yeah he's better than Sierra and Harrison, which is sad but true.

                    • I still might go with Harrison since he's gotten less of a look at the big league level and I think his ceiling is higher than Brinson's. I do not think he would do well, though. Also, I think he's in the dog house right now because of the Marte incident.

it is but he really has not been nearly as awful as he was the last 3 years and he actually has a positive WAR somehow on fangraphs this year. Harrison just cant make enough contact to be a major leaguer but id even rather see him than sierra. I've been saying it for two years but I simply have no idea how sierra continues to waste a spot on this roster. Id have brinson in CF everyday, Sanchez in a corner OF spot of course when he comes back, and then maybe give De La Cruz and Harrison the rest of the OF at bats.

They need to just dump all 3 of Sierra, Harrison, and Brinson. Sierra first, flip a coin on the other two. All 3 are garbage, but there can still be a "best" of the garbage - without much going on this year, it doesn't matter who plays now....but get rid of them all after the season.

the sad fact is you're probably right, but that all falls on the failures of the front office. Right now, they have failed way too much to expect them to all of a sudden get things right. This rebuild is not going well enough to expect nothing more than an 81-81 type team at best from them....and an 81-81 BORING AF team at that.....
