  • Maybe it's a service time thing, and they'll call him up once he passes whatever threshold, but I would've really liked to have seen Neidert get that 5th starter job over Elieser. I'm expecting the rotation to be by the end of these 60-games. Sandy-Pablo-Caleb-Sixto-Neidert. With Caleb possibly being a trade candidate in the off-season, or even possibly moved to the pen. Maybe even 2021 Closer?

Didn’t get to watch Neidert pitch last night and still haven’t seen him pitch at all. Is his stuff good? Seems like he throws a low 90s fastball. Elieser was rushed to the big leagues, but it seems like he’s been improving little by little. He’s better than I initially thought even though he might be more of a bullpen guy long term.

I like elieser but his stuff seems to play better out of the pen. he just didnt look comfortable coming out of the pen last year. I watched neidert's inning last night and he looked pretty good but it was obviously a super small sample. I want to see him take elieser's spot as well but if the time to get an extra year of service time is just a few days (has anyone confirmed the exact time) then it seems like a no brainer just to bite the bullet on a week or two.

I watched a couple of Neidert's starts in AAA last year. The fastball was sitting at about 92-94 last year, but he's got kind of a funky delivery and he hides the ball well, so I think the fastball plays up a little bit, his off-speed stuff is all solid, but maybe not front of the rotation worthy. He honestly reminds me a lot of Zac Gallen, now he has yet to put together the truly dominant stretch like Gallen did in 2019, but I'm actually higher on Neidert now than I was on Gallen going into 2019, so who knows he might be able to make that jump. At the very least I think he's going to be a solid 5th starter.

              • I don't wanna wish ill on anybody, but kinda glad that it looks like Harold will get the opportunity in RF rather than Brinson. Harold is just way more deserving. Intrigued about what the stance change will do for his numbers.

                    2020 2021

                    Sandy Sandy
                    Caleb Caleb
                    Pablo Pablo
                    Urena Sixto
                    Elieser Neidert

                    Sharp Sharp
                    Box Elieser
                    Vesia Vesia
                    Tarpley Tarpley
                    Stanek Yamamoto
                    Steck Holloway
                    Yimi Yimi
                    Knitzler Guzman

They will probably sign or keep some vets but u could see something like this for 2021 very easy

Pretty much have made decisions on Yamamoto/Holloway/Guzman as RP and wouldnt be surprised if they were in pen this year. Alot of stuff depends on where we are August 25 or so if we have 5 wins u could see vets gone for peanuts(PTBNL) and the young guys up but if we have 15 wins alot of them will be delayed

Vesia made it,Box will likely make it and 1 other person prolly(Heard Sean Rodriguez but they are looking at DFA guys too)

A "new rule" was mentioned- The Marlins’ 40-man roster is technically full, but they have a few players who appear to be on the Covid-19 injured list, and those players won’t count against the 40-man until they’re activated

Brinson and Joyce are on Covid IL so u can do something like Vesia and Box up until they activated then DFA Conley and trade Joyce or even DFA Conley and just call Vesia up

Neidert is likely #5 SP in 2021. He is Woody Williams light. Elieser and Dugger are LR in future-they love Elieser but seem him as LR/Spot SP

Neidert is only 23 and many believe he could have 10-12 year career so he will be #4/5 innings eater SP for long time

love some positive maddawg. I still think its gonna be a tough year because of the schedule but if we can get just an average but consistent bullpen i could see a playoff contention into the last few weeks of the year. especially since they are now saying they are considering 8 playoff teams per league. I like kintzler, boxburger, steckenrider, vesia, and stanek. IF they can just get 2 more consistent arms that can be a pretty decent pen and at least not be a huge hole in the roster.

also i hadnt seen monte in action really since we got him but holy shit that dude is a fucking tank. his game has some holes in the plate discipline department but you can see just from his body the type of potential he possesses. Same thing with Jesus sanchez. He's not quite as athletic but his body is super mature for his age. It's going to be super interesting to see which 3 guys pan out eventually out of this group of 10 or so guys in the system who should be ready in the next 2 years.

We're definitely on the same page on this. There is optimism, & hope. I just hope they don't trade all the vets before we really know if we can really make a run

                          • "Why not us?" asks Mattingly.

Various reasons would be my reply.

The outfield woes from last season have been addressed, if you applied them. In signing Villar, you bought huge improvement at 2B over an over-matched I Diaz. Problem is, you plan on putting Villar in a foreign position to allow "development" time for Diaz, who would have to show monumental improvement just to be mediocre. The best OF is Dickerson in LF, Ramirez in CF, and Anderson's Gold Glove talent in RF. Does anyone realize that Ramirez has 29' sprint speed compared to just 28' for Villar? Harold has played CF and I don't recall seeing any problem with his defense there. Berti and Alvarez are both capable of manning third base with solid defense, speed, and offensive impact.

Another why not is the starting rotation. Keeping it real, we're looking at a bunch of 4.50+ ERAs. One or two of them might do better ... a few might do a lot worse.

A top of the order lineup of Villar, Dickerson, Anderson, and Ramirez is vastly better than last year's group. The Marlins will definitely score more runs. The bullpen will be better with Vesia, Yimi Garcia (who looks fantastic), Boxberger, and Kinzler (who I do not see as the closer).

Overall, the Marlins should provide entirely decent nightly entertainment. As to the future? Who knows?

                            • Harold Ramirez played cf last year and was awful out there. Also your hate for Diaz will be changed with one week of productivity which is why any evaluation of young players by you is useless
