And that is even more so in the nba where they foolishly think that Orlando was/still is a genius place to do the bubble. No shot that works out and the season gets finished. I hope I’m wrong because fuck I miss sports but this whole putting sports money over health/human lives is beyond irresponsible and it will end with a player or a family member of a player being seriously ill or killed
Spring training is gonna be in each teams home city or close to it. Toronto might have to stay in Buffalo

ST will be ML team vs High Level Taxi vs Low Level Taxi

Here's a thought I haven't heard discussed. Given the relatively low cost of Dickerson and Villar contracts this short season, might their trade value get a bump? I could see either or both traded prior to the start of the season to a playoff contender that appreciates a 63% discount.
If Miami is smart they punt on the 2020 season get a Top 5 pick. Keep the young guys in the minors(save season of time) play the 60 games and get ready for 2021

Our 60 games are vs Wash/Atlanta/Philly/NYM/NYY/Boston/TB/Toronto/Baltimore

    • I'm curious to see how much emphasis teams put on this shortened season. Will teams be willing to make a ton of short-term value moves like trading for Villar or Dickerson for a season that may be viewed as not a real season, and possibly a World Series champion with an asterisk?

There is no point in guessing if this will work or not.

For all sports leagues, all they can do is put a system in place to minimize the risk. That is what the NBA has done with the bubble concept in Orlando and the NHL is doing with their hub cities. It may seem foolish to go to Orlando now with cases rising there, but that is exactly the point of the bubble. From what I understand, the NBA chose Disney, in part, because it is a private property and that makes it easier to control who comes into contact with the players and staff putting the season on. They could move the site to another city and then a hot spot can flare up there too. You can't try to hit a moving target, so you make as good of a plan as possible and go with it. I don't see it as irresponsible. All people right now are being asked to go back to work and they have to assess the risk involved. It's really no different for players and leagues. As it currently stands, the downside of not playing is outweighing the concerns so long as everyone involved is willing to do the work necessary to ensure safety. Will it work? We will soon find out.

        • I think it would incredibly stupid for the World Series winner to have an asterisk.

Did the winner of the 2020 WS play in Nicaragua while everyone else played in the US?

I understand that no matter what, though, there will be implied asterisks thrown at the eventual champion (mostly by jealous rival team fans).

          • I'd put the O/U at 20 wins in 2020. Which would you choose?

Thirty-plus players were released from the Marlins farm system a week ago ... and I still haven't been able to find a list of names. Is that crazy or what?

            • We need lou’s take on if Marlins should go for it in a shortened season or full tank.

Yeah I was thinking it's been a long time since he's posted on the boards, hope everything is ok with him.

Same. As much as I value the majority of people's opinions on here, I usually take his word as the voice of reason.

It really should be interesting. You'd think some small market teams will go for it because you just don't get the chance very often, regardless of whether people see it as somewhat tainted. As of now there won't be expanded playoffs, and universal DH, but it sounds like those both could still be in play. If expanded playoffs happens, that will add even more teams to contention, and could make it a serious seller's market. Adding universal DH will increase the chances that Miami can trade some of their veteran bats like Aguilar, and maybe even get something for Kemp.

Jayson Stark tweeted yesterday that apparently the universal DH is part of the health/safety protocols for 2020.

                    • More details from MLBTR:

-MLB plans to implement 30-man rosters, up from 26, to start the season. However, the 30-man total will shrink to 28 on the 15th day of the season. It will go down to 26 on Day 29 and stay there for good.

-The trade deadline is normally July 31, but expectations are that it will move to Aug. 31 this year.

-A runner starting on second base in extra innings would only apply in the regular season, not the playoffs. The batter who made the final out in the previous inning would start extras on second.

-MLB may decide to suspend games that don’t last at least five innings due to weather. In other words, they’ll remain in limbo until the teams are able to finish them at a later date.

-Both pitchers and position players would likely have a 10-day injured list. For players who are seriously hurt, the 60-day IL would be cut to 45 days.

-Three days before the resumption of spring training, teams have to submit lists of 60 players who will be eligible to play for them during the season (40-man rosters plus taxi squads). All players would not show up to spring training at the same time. They’d report on a “staggered” basis, and they’d be at the ballpark at different times.

ugh...I hate this. To me you're fundamentally changing what baseball is when you put a runner on base to start an inning.

I read some tweets that said it was being discussed, but maybe they already decided. I'd rather see expanded playoffs out of the two, but that seems like it may be less likely.

Trading Dickerson or Villar before they play a game or only 10-15 games into this shortened season would be a new PR nightmare for the Marlins. I might & you might understand their reasoning, but Joe Public Casual fan, will not. How & when do you ever start gaining the trust of the fans.....to ever be "that contender" you have to start building the team you guys claim will be a contender in 2022....you realize that will be their 5th season of ownership & aura around the team is still as bad as ever....you're still trading players away......it's just not a good look.

Expanded playoffs would have been a huge plus for this troubled season. More fans would be following teams, enthusiasm would be up, interest would have been unprecedented. Players chose to use that key enhancement of the game as an economic football.

Point well taken. At the same time, I'd rather watch Monte, Jazz, L Diaz and J Sanchez right now.

I normally agree. But I do understand the goal of trying to limit the length of extra innings in this strange season. I don't support it any other time, though.

                                Could be, I'm not sure.

I'd rather not waste a year of service time on this short year.

MAYBE if there were expanded playoffs, but otherwise, no.

Eh, I think people would realize it's a crazy season and that even that isn't indicative of the Marlins doing the "same old same old".
