MLB has TREMENDOUS resources to make a 82 game season happen. There are millions of dollars at stake as well as the implications to the fan base should the season get cancelled entirely.
Some people are allowing their hatred of Trump and his handling of C-19 to cloud their vision of how a 2020 season can happen. Some people WANT more failures because it would magnify Trumps wrongdoings.
<——————did not vote for Trump if you’re wondering

If the owners don't want to pay, that's all good, but then the implications will be bigger. Just don't blame the players. They will be playing just so we can watch and entertain ourselves.

I don't see that as asking for much. The players will have to play, travel, maybe be away from their families while the owners and Front Office will be able to stay at home or not put themselves are risk.

I was just commenting on the fact that just because they’re billionaires, they’re not going to cave to the players. It’s not in their nature. I would have loved for the two sides to agree 24 hours after the owners submitted their proposal but I’m not all surprised that it’s going to be several days/weeks until they agree or cancel the season.

https://www.newsday.com/sports/colum...ons-1.44782808 Hard as I try, I see nothing to legitimize the players' union contention that they are entitled to pro rata salaries in front of empty seats.
MLBPA sold out the draft picks for service time for ML players already. Players don't want to just play 81 games, spend rest of day travellling around Florida or at a 5 star hotel. They want to stay at home,be with family,go out at night and all
Owners were all for the AZ/FL split league plan this year but as soon as players heard they take bus/train and just play baseball they said NO.

NBA guys pretty much had same thought until they got 25% of pay withheld. Now they are all about staying at Disney hotels playing at Wide World Sports and other places in Central FL so they can get paid.

I subscribed to The Athletic because I've read everything else. First thing I read was Keith Law's top 100 prospects. I judged it as brilliant/astute and all that for the best and most subjective of reasons: it concurred with my own thoughts pretty much down the line. Jazz is our top guy at #15 for the best of reasons - he's a freak of nature with his reflexes and all around talent level. Law made a big deal of his transformation once he donned a Jacksonville jersey. He's destined to be the face of the franchise.
Before moving on to the next Marlin, I lingered at the 25 spot and CJ Abrams, my dream pick in the 2019 draft. Only Adley Rutchman enjoyed a higher rating among '19 draftees, with Vaughn, Witt Jr., Bleday and Riley Green all trailing him.
34 is Edward Cabrera, 15 spots ahead of Sixto Sanchez. Of all published ranking lists, Law is the only one to get this right ... IMO.
Braxton Garrett is a somewhat surprising 62. Personally, I lean toward Trevor Rogers over Garrett, but time will tell. I'm just glad to see the name appear.
Bleday(68) and J Sanchez also made the list (83). I would have made room for L Diaz on the list, maybe even Harrison too. Still, six names isn't bad ... with Asa Lacy still to come.Last edited by Lee Stone; 05-21-2020, 02:52 PM.

lewin diaz is a guy who would have been on those top prospects lists by the end of the year if there was a minor league season

Also, if jazz pans out and we can turn ozuna's last two years till free agency into him and a top to mid rotation guy in Sandy that's pretty damn good.

My guess on eventual salary agreement with MLBPA: If all games are played w/o fans in attendance, contract salaries will be reduced by 20% for 2020 and then prorated. In affect, a player with a MLB average salary of $5M will receive a pro-rated share of $4M (or $2M for an 81 game regular season). Neither party will be happy with the arrangement, which is essential for a fair compromise. The huge win for the players this season will be a 29-30 man roster, creating 90-120 new ML salaries.
Asa Lacey interview. Sounds like a really great kid. https://www.mlb.com/news/asa-lacy-dr...an-comparisonsLast edited by Lee Stone; 05-24-2020, 05:28 AM.
