I'm not giving up on Banfield by any means, but how could you possibly make this statement based on anything he's done in professional baseball so far?

Right now he could be a ML Backup(Glove/Arm/Call game) but would be the worst hitter in ML. Just saying that is our C of the Future so doubtful they spend a high pick on 1

If Patrick Bailey or Alex Wells is around in Rd 2S I would jump all over them

      • He was one of the worst hitters in low A-Ball last year. So yeah I can't imagine the discussion being, oh we better not use any resources on catchers because we got this Banfield guy over here.

I am of the opinion you draft your catcher of the future every season, minimum one of your first 4-5 picks.

Having a catcher pipeline is insanely valuable, as it not only potentially solves a major on the field issue but gets your pitchers throwing to better guys in the lower minors. It helps everyone.

The Marlins 2nd-4th pick this year should absolutely be a catcher with 8 guys in the top 100 right now.

Keep drafting them as even if you develop "Barnes" that's awesome.

Of course not like said if Patrick Bailey or even Wells is sitting there in Rd 2S I would jump all either of them. What I am saying is RIGHT NOW Will Banfield who is 20 all year is the C of the future. He will eventually be in the ML as a Jeff Mathis type(question is can he hit more to be a starter?)

            • Brinson doing that thing again where he hits in Spring Training only to not hit when it matters?

Same opinion especially since most C ones sign for slot. Only thing is u can't have 10 C around same level because u pretty much have to get reps

Actually have some solid depth just nothing special(maybe 2 who could be in ML at some point) with most older guys Defensive C only

                AAA-Wallach/Lavarnway
                AA-Leon/Navaretto/Chavez

                Lo A-Barstad or Fish/Skelton/Arcaya

                • Mathis was actually a solid hitter throughout his minor league career. He hit .287/.346/.444 as a 19 year old in the Midwest League. .276/.339/.444 for his MiLB career.

That is not a good list. Never even hear of those guys at AA. Also, you forgot Fortes. They couldn't possibly move Banfield up from Lo A, right? He was terrible last year. If he couldn't hit in Clinton how could he possibly be expected to hit in Jupiter?

                    Jorge Guzman pitching.

Very impressive 1-2-3 inning from Guzman. I think he threw all fastballs.

Forgot the C we took in first 5 Rds Fortes will likely be in AA

I honestly could care less what C we take as long as they dont retire after 1 year like 5 or more of guys have over past few years. Rowan,Dunbar,Rindfleisch,Barnes,Cohen

Probably. I have zero confidence in his numbers carrying over to the normal season until I see it.

                        • Are these guys trying to get hone quickly? Based on the game cast both teams have been swinging away and not working counts at all

Also I think yimj Garcia has a chance to be our best bullpen arm this year. Love that type of reliever

If Jorge Guzman can get his control to at least league average he becomes incredibly interesting again as a mid rotation guy with ridiculous velocity. Even if not his improvement with his command has made him much more likely to be a future closer again than it looked like a year ago when he looked like another tayron Guerrero

Pretty much this. Though I’d like to see him be given a legit chance to succeed for a month or 2 and not in a platoon role with a veteran like kemp who has no chance of being here after this year. I’d also like to see him not hit 8th and give the kid an actual chance to succeed

Gameday doesn’t count every pitch for Spring Training.

That would make a ton of sense as to why I haven’t seen a ball all game.

Also I spoke way too soon on Guzman as he implodes in the 6th
