Have to think the delay is they are working on moves to clear 40 man spots.

              Agreed.

Mish is also by far the best dude that covers the Marlins. (Not a very high bar, though)

We have awful beat writers but mish is really great. He has legit sources and while he does have a tendency to overrate certain guys that you can tell he has a personal relationship with, he isn’t a front office or player mouth piece like frisaro

I ended up feeling bad for Chen. It’s not like it was his fault he was given a contract he didn’t deserve and his stuff and injuries immediately declined. Don’t get me wrong, he was fucking awful and one of if not the worst signing in team history, but he got hung out to dry for his last two years here because they didn’t want to cut him just because of his salary so he had to just go out there and continue to get pummeled with the entire roster knowing he didn’t deserve to be on the team

With Joyce getting a major league deal that signals to me that they will not have any kind of platoon between brinson and Sierra, that will be a straight competition for a major league spot with the other going down. I’d guess our outfield looks like Dickerson, Joyce, Anderson/villar, brinson/Sierra, Ramirez? With berti being a utility backup infielder

                  • CF. I would give Monte as much time as possible there in spring training, and bat him first in the order. He's already a great defensive player with an excellent arm, and he has really good speed to go with aggressive baserunning. Do I think he can hit .250 with a .325 OBP? I really don't. But I would take a chance with him. He would be the team's most entertaining player to watch and there is nothing to lose. Frankly, I think he brings more to the table than Isan Diaz, who seems to be getting every opportunity to stick at second base. Sierra is the second option in CF, although his incredible speed comes with poor instincts in both the field and on the bases. Harold Ramirez is a reasonable and likely passable third option.

                    • Villar should get every opportunity to try and show that he can play in CF in the spring, and if I'm him, I'm 100% for it, he's in a contract year, if he shows the ability to play even a league average CF that increases his value tremendously. Either way if Harrison stays healthy, the job will be his be June or July at the latest.

Absent a Rojas trade, this for sure.

Monte has had 244 PA in AAA with a .373 BABIP. Let him play everyday in AAA and hope he's ready in June/July.

Money isn’t a panacea. No ones is saying he’s this poor guy with the worst life ever but his last two seasons had to have been miserable given every player knew he didn’t belong in the big leagues,he clearly didn’t have it anymore, and he barely speaks any English living in a foreign country. But whatever you can do the old cliched sports fan argument of they make a ton of money therefore you can’t feel bad for them for anything

I advocate MLB players making gobs of money. They are the elite few hundred out of millions and millions of people not good enough to make the majors.

But fuck a guy who continuously ate a bag of dicks the entire time he played for my team.

i mean i guess, i just have empathy for the guy. If he wasnt trying and was half assing it and was playing like shit that would be one thing, but he kind of got laid out to get fucking destroyed every time because he had an agent who fooled loria years ago and the new ownership didnt want to eat the money he was owed. My only point was that he was in a position where he could be the worst player in MLB history and it was extremely unlikely we were going to move on until this offseason thus putting him in this position where he would just get shelled consistently and couldnt get cut. But whatever its not worth getting into its simply a matter of opinion.

Is there any news on Joyce and Kintzler and their corresponding moves?

riddle signs with Pitt. He should get an opportunity there.

Just looking at the hitter projections for the roster for us next year and we will still suck but it will be nice not to have any absolute non major leaguers to throw out there other than brinson if he doesnt show any improvements. Other than that every other hitter if healthy is at least a capable major league hitter. A bench of cervelli, one of cooper/aguilar, joyce, harold ramirez, and berti is pretty solid.

is there any talk of him actually being able to do that though? He's played in CF just 43 innings in his major league career. Maybe if brinson shits the bed again and its time to cut bait after mid may/beginning of june, but to start the season id rather anderson and villar split 3b and a corner outfield spot, put brinson in CF everyday and not hit him 8th, and definitely keep monte in AAA until at least late july so he can keep developing.

I think monte will be a low OBP, high SB, and good power guy eventually, but i think he will be awful if we bring him up too early. His game isnt the type that can make an impact prior to being fully developed. At his peak i think he can bat .260-.270, OPS of low-mid .800's, an efficient base stealer, and 20-30 hr's but he needs close to a full year in AAA.
