Marlins and Brandon Kintzler are working on a deal. Good under-the-radar pickup, if completed. 1.02 WHIP last year. Lefties hit .163 against him. #fish
we apparently are close to signing kintzler. Interesting, likely 1 year deal. I dont like this style of reliever (i.e. pitch to contact dont miss a lot of bats) and the front office has gone away from those guys this offseason but if this is who we get our ballpark does play to that strength as a pretty good pitchers park. He's probably our closer and romo of this year who we hope to flip at the deadline.

Reliever Brandon Kintzler is signing with the Marlins: 1 year, $3 million with a $4 mil option for 2021 (or $250k buyout).

      Solid deal.

Please explain. Do you think that a) Padres would never trade Abrams or b) Alcantara for Abrams wouldn't be enough? I am always interested in finding out what "downright bad" comments I am guilty of.
He's a top 25-30 prospect right now and they just paid him a massive signing bonus. If you're going to move someone like that (basically Bleday), it needs to be in a package for a star (i.e., a Yelich type trade). I like Sandy's potential a lot, but he's flashing being a good # 3 SP, not an ace. It's not a good matchup of players for where both those guys are right now, even if Sandy has very arguably a surplus value over $70 million (2+ WAR starter/5 years). Maybe you get lucky at the deadline for some kind of trade like that as all bets are off July 31st, but that's just not a smart move for them. And it's also probably not a smart move for Miami as Sandy showing any improvement could turn him into something more. I'd need a guaranteed player for Sandy as he's already proved it his first 200 innings.

I think so too, but it shouldn't.

Lee's Rojas idea is the way to go - sign Puig for 3/$34, club option for $9 more (basically, the beneficial club year in year 4 which is the dream), and then trade Rojas which shouldn't be that hard to do as he is amazing for a contender. Shift Villar (SS) and Anderson (3B), and then see how CF shakes out. i.e., if J. Sanchez and Bleday (and/or Scott, Burdick, Jerar, Misner, etc.) look great, and Monte (and Brinson, Sierra, Ramirez, etc.) suck, one (or more) of the former can be moved for a right now CF option and they are kind of set short and longterm.

Not going to happen, but it would be a good use of resources.

Also, if this happened, I'd STILL trade for Wil Myers and take on salary for their prospects. I'd just trade Cooper (or Aguilar) to open up some PA at 1B, and Myers can dabble in CF 2+ times a week.

            Basically in 2020:

            Alfaro, Cervelli
            Myers, Aguilar/Cooper
            Isan
            Villar, Berti
            Anderson
            Dickerson, Ramirez
Brinson, Sierra (Myers, Ramirez, and Berti pitch in here)
            Puig

With adding Puig/Myers (let's say SD eats 25-33% of Myers), and ditching Rojas, and let's trade out Urena and Conley - you around $78-82 million in 2020

In 2021, you're under $70 million for this:

            Alfaro, ______
            Lewin, Myers
            Isan
Jazz, Berti (presumably Padres prospects fight with Berti)
            Anderson
Dickerson, Ramirez (Dickerson moved mid-season for Sanchez or Bleday turnover)
            Monte, Sierra (Myers pitching in)
            Puig
(*The other of Sanchez/Bleday can be traded for presumably a CF upgrade over Sierra or Ramirez)

Sixto, Sandy, Pablo, Neidert, Cabrera (*Caleb traded for something; presumably Padres prospects fight with these guys, i.e. Morejon/Weathers)
Guzman, Brigham, Sharp, Hernandez, Yamamoto (Dugger, Holloway, Roberson, etc.)
            Garcia, Vesia, Tarpley/Quijada

In 2022, you are running a $55 million payroll with Myers and Puig (Chen finally off books, you can move arbitration eligible guys like Pablo off for Garret/Rogers at this point, etc.).

Basically, Myers/Puig do nothing to the payroll. They could sign a superstar in 2022, and then both are off the books.

I'm confused why they would pick up the tender if they are just going to trade them, but we'll see what they do. A trade makes most sense

Cause they would rather get something for 500K or whatever they have to pay instead of just getting rid of him.

Like u keep saying they can afford alot more on the payroll. Pay these guys/send money in deals and get prospects

Ill take a Kintzler and cash to whoever for a 40 prospect

              • In case you are wondering the $55 million 2022 team with Puig/Myers

                Alfaro, Club Controlled
                Lewin, Myers
                Isan
Jazz, Berti/Devers/Guy acquired from SD in Myers trade
                Anderson
                Bleday
                Monte, Scott
Puig, "Guy acquired for trading J. Sanchez/Caleb Smith"

Sixto, Sandy, Cabrera, Rogers, Garrett/Neidert/Guy acquired from SD in Myers trade
Guzman, Brigham, Sharp, Holloway, Roberson.... basically all internal options, and you can trickle down SP and move Pablo for more pen arms
Vesia, Tarpley, Quijada. Need lefties, but see above. Trickle down and trades

$55 million. And you have the 2020 high end draft picks in the minors, and you've shown your fan base you care for 2020 and 2021.

That team is awesome dropping two major free agents on it?

This is why everyone i so confused. I wouldnt do Myers AND Puig but I would jump all over a Myers and prospects/Comp A pick in a minute

                  Do something like this

SD-Pompey/other guys who does fit into plans
                  Miami-Wil Myers(most of his contract),Comp A Pick,1 of Ryan Weathers,Morejon,Reggie Lawson(2nd tier SP),1 of Gabriel Arias,Rosario,Owen Miller(MIF)

I would go for Myers,Comp A Pick,Morejon and Owen Miller

So get Myers and 3 things to take him on. Pick/Draft $,SP and MIF

Then SD can turn around and trade prospects for Betts

                  • Still IN on Strop with Milb deal. Also on Phelps,Minaya,Jason Vargas,Cingrani(bigger names) but also few others including Henderson Alvarez

Also in on some OF. I would love for us to get in on 1 of Yolmer Sanchez,Addison Russell,Devon Travis,Brad Miller and of course Greg Bird(Milb deals)

We have a few "commits" so they should be coming off soon since ST starts

Ya I only said his name because of Lee HAHAHA

THink they prefer a SS just in case Berti plays CF.

                        • This is kind of irrelevant in the grand scheme of things (or maybe it’s not)

But if the Kintzler move means we’re DFA’ing Conley, I think Tony Cingrani is a good option as a lefty reliever on a minor league deal.

Also, I don’t know if this bullpen will be good, but at least they’ll definitely throw more strikes next year. I would rather watch that than watch Tayron Guerrero come in to throw 120 mph and not know where it’s going.

I'd rather Yamamoto/Hernandez/Dugger get the innings.
