I might be wrong but I doubt there is an 80% difference between the contracts any player is offered if it's a 1 or 2 year deal. Of course $2.5 million >$500K - but I doubt the difference is more than $300 to $500K, which is a lot of money, but if the Marlins offer me $2.5 million & the Braves offer me $2.3 million, I'd give some really hard looks at that Atlanta offer.
tj is claiming Marwin Gonzalez has a 3-year offer on the table, and no other offers, is waiting for a team he likes to offer. I find that hard to believe. Also claiming guys are taking non-guaranteed deals over guaranteed deals because where they want to play. I just find that really hard to believe.
Making $2 million one year and then falling off the map does not provide you and your immediate family with a lifetime of financial security. Anyone who thinks otherwise is either 15 years old or not spending enough time calculating the costs of owning a home, providing health insurance and college to your family, food, retirement etc etc.
Well allthe more reason to be pushing for universal health care & tuition free state college education (we already pay pre-K through 12, just extend it through state run colleges).. By the way if you live in Canada two things you don't have to worry about.

The worst direction this discussion could go is politics.
1 reason why Miami didn't trade with Atlanta? Miami didnt want Soroka and his arm issues

Soroka’s shoulder is bothering him again. He felt some discomfort while lifting weights a month ago, but he was able to complete bullpens in pain-free fashion until this week. He’ll be restricted from throwing for another 4-5 days.
Heyman says the market for Denard Span is picking up and lists the Marlins as one of the teams in on him. He wouldn’t be my first choice of free agent OFs, but nice to know they are still at least looking to address the position.

Heyman’s proven to be about as credible as tjfla this offseason.
Nolan Arenado’s days as the face of the Rockies franchise will continue beyond the 2019 season. Arenado, who had been slated to reach free agency next winter, has instead agreed to an eight-year contract extension worth a reported $260MM. The Wasserman client’s new contract reportedly contains an opt-out clause after the third season, which would allow him to become a free agent in advance of his age-31 campaign.
It's all about Xander. They should give him 10/$275 with a 4/5 year opt out next year and not give a shit about it as 20 guys on the roster (including Chen/Stanton deferred money) are going to cost $40-50 million from 2021-2023 easy. They can afford an overpay. They should be all in with him. He gets the Jayson Werth overpay as a player to bring legitimacy and a real missing piece on the roster.

They gotta deal with Betts remember, so it's going to be hard for them to devote that much to two players at the same time. It's a perfect storm scenario for Miami to come out of nowhere and flex their low payroll.

Xander works for sure. If we wait one more year, though, won’t we have even more money off the books for Lindor?

Xander or Lindor overpay on either to play SS. 40-60 million to play with and only "openings" at this point are #1/2 SP,SS,1B
This year's draft is gonna tell alot on how the FO see it. #4 Vaughn/Bobby Witt JR #35 Should be 2 or 3 College SS sitting there
If they go with Vaughn and say Shewmake or Will Wilson they don't NEED 1B or SS as much because they should all be ready by July 2021.(I am NOT saying they should not go after Xander or Lindor if they draft a college SS-saying it gives them a fall back option)
Now if they go with Bobby Witt Jr and say a SP they are probably ALL in on FA

Miami has 40-60 million to play with starting in 20/21 with 1B/SS/#1 SP/Vet RP only real "openings"

Oh, I wasn't implying we'd go after him, more that that move would affect the overall market, and potentially guys we'd go after (teams going after Arenado may pivot to someone we'd target, like Xander).
Smart move is 2020 Sign Ray or Paxton for 15 mil or so a year(Yep OVERPAY) to be #1 till Sixto is ready then move to #2. Frontline starter AND Lefty then try to go for Xander with some crazy offer like 10/275.
If u can't get Xander sign a 1 yr stopgap and in 2021 throw that same offer out to Correa or Lindor(Seager probably resigns with LAD)
2 FA cost 40-45 million and maybe a Rd 2/S2 Pick in 2020 and 21
2020
Sixto
Paxton or Ray
Sandy
Neidert
