        • Watching Sixto’s outing

Kyle Sieloff “95 mph fastball by Sixto”

He’s said that on 2 pitches

          88 mph cutter

          2 cans of corn and a K

          1,2,3 inning

Might go look for my track shoes in the closet

Hitting 95+ says to me someone like Oakland, Colorado, or Chicago(AL) would pick him up very very quickly and dump him in their bullpen ala Elisier Hernandez and work him up and play him in garbage time. This is a the Marlins try to sneak him through waivers scenario as he is OOO. Hope for a healthy recovery and see if there is something there. It’s a lottery ticket but hard to top him if he is showing some real velocity and might start getting through this. No rush for those clubs you know. They are all losing 100 games absent a miracle. The Marlins could also trade him to one of them for an equalish volatile upside guy with options and maybe it makes sense for everyone there

Alternatively he shows enough and becomes the Marlins 13th bullpen arm and is just chucking garbage time for now. Maybe he gets drilled so they could sneak him through waivers after a shelling or two too. Or maybe he’s just fine. That would be something.

We’ll see but I can say I wasn’t expecting him to come out and hit 95mph in a spring training game. That’s above the average MLB fastball by 1 MPH even if a few ticks below 2020. That’s kind of both a best and worst case scenario, best that in maybe there is a glimmer of hope, and worst because that’s not sneakable through waivers and he probably shouldn’t be in the pen on a contender day 1 absent a real crazy next few weeks. Tough situation here. If they lose him to a DFA claim after 3 years showing his best arm talent since 2020 that will be so frustrating. But ultimately, more good news and bad news here so we’ll see. They could very easily do this for the bullpen:

              Bulk - Puk, Weathers, Soriano
              HL - Scott, Nardi
              RP - Chargois, Brazoban, Sixto

With Soriano and Brazoban sent up and down every 7-10 days for Faucher, Hoeing, McCaughan, Munez, and Cronin, with the looming ads of Max and Bender when they are built up a bit more.

Would be something for sure. Hoping for him it works out as it’s been 3 entire seasons which is nuts

              • Put him on the il to start the year and let him get a month of rehab outings in, then bring him up out of the pen. If he doesn’t have it cut bait. We need righty relievers so it’s not like there isn’t theoretically a role for him

Sure, if he can go on the IL. Remember MLB is cracking down on fake stints and Mets GM kind of resigned because of that. 95 MPH fastballs doesn’t seem hurt to me, but maybe they can get a few weeks as a benefit of a doubt after 3 years

                  • Wheeler 3/$126m extension. So that's $298m for 10 years of Wheeler and Nola.

Marlins entire end of season team payroll the last 4 seasons is $300m, give or take a few million.

ya, they are cracking down but like you said, you get the benefit of the doubt of needing some IL time with 3 full years off of pitching. at the very least i would like to see him get some run out of the bullpen to see if he has anything left before they give up on him. you've waited this long, give him a few months out of the pen and see if you can get anything. If the other option is hoeing or brazoban, it's a pretty easy call.

The other option is Hoeing and the guys below, not even Brazoban who is a step above that considering his usage last year.

This is likely the staff if everyone is healthy, so...

SP - Luzardo, Eury, Garrett, Cabrera, Rogers
                        Bulk - Puk, Weathers, Soriano
                        HL - Scott, Nardi
                        RP - Chargois, Brazoban, _________

40 man - Sixto, Faucher, Hoeing, McCaughan, Munez, Cronin, Maldonado, Simpson..... and Bender and Max, but rehab so kick them out a few months probably

Non-40 man - Andriese, Yonny, Guitterez, Tyler, etc.

There is certainly room here as yea, even if Bender just kills it and is added Brazoban/Soriano could go down sure, but it would be really nice to get Sixto on the IL. If anyone gets a benefit of the doubt, it may be him for a few weeks. We'll see if he's throwing 91 next appearance and that was a fluke.

I think he'll be good, I just question his durability going forward as a starter. We'll see.

I'm not sure MLB of all sources is going to divebomb the organization (like FG will with Berry). I wouldn't read into that much.

But I think this list is interesting for a few things:

Mesa Jr. - Is he more legitimate as a prospect then we think he is? More than a defensive 5th OF?

Millbrandt - # 6 overall. Might be a reflection on the farm strength, but did he take a jump? Interesting to think of him as a mid/backend starter projection rather than a pure project.

Alderman - Was given a solid grade/report for how they got him. He's probably the new Burdick we can dream can hit the ball and not whiff all the time.

Cappe - Sounds like Cappe is going to be a 2B and not SS/3B, and that's if he makes it at all.

Amaya - Dropped a little and looks like a pure utility projection adding 2B to his position. This one is disappointing. They need a SS.

Cova - Got a good initial ranking for a 17 year old. At least they did a major IFA signing.

Dane - I love that they mentioned he is the oldest player in all of MLB Pipeline's rankings

"Relievers" - I think they have a real big reliever pipeline for years so even if all we can say is the SP and bullpen is figured out for the rest of the decade (it might be), that's a lot to build off of

Generally, they could use a big draft year, but the MLB control is huge so it's OK for right now. If they hit on Brujan/Faucher/McCaughan/whoever, it'll effectively negate some of the farm too. We'll see. Let's hope they don't draft DHs and not Brooks Lee next time.
