But they need another arm regardless of this for sure, and even more so if he is going to miss 1-2 full months.

Also, we gotta end cancel culture and let people rehabilitate and prove themselves, and this is an across the board comment not just for athletes. Redemption is a good societal quality. Michael Vick turned his life around after some horrible decisions, others can too. Would Vick even be given an opportunity these days? I think that's wrong assuming the person has changed. You just hold these folks to a higher bar, which Vick has been. Clevinger probably doesn't even remotely fall in this bucket for me, but if we want to go here and what kind of guy this conversation this is about - it's Trevor Bauer. Who Pirates fans are clamoring to sign. This article is from today for instance - https://www.bucsdugout.com/2024/2/28...bauer-mlb-2024.
Maybe he is still a supreme asshole, but he has fully cleared his name legally and had a successful year in Japan. That holds some weight. Some of the allegations are terrible (and some were fake from one of the women in California to mention both sides as Bauer does point out), but is he forever cast away on allegations he has legally overcome? Is Deshaun Watson worse, who is still embroiled with legal matters I believe, and he in fact has settled some matters with $$$ (unlike Bauer) indicating there is something clearly there with Watson (or is that unfair)? It's a tough question without knowing the person and situations, but I agree with the article that there should be exploration into Bauer if you are a MLB franchise. Miami is perhaps the best possible landing spot for him as a lower baseball press media market in arguably the most Republican MLB city (Biden got larger vote shares in places like Cincinnati and St. Louis for instance, not doing a deep dive here but I think Miami-Dade might be the most republican MLB city, ignoring Broward, Maybe Tampa is more?). And to be clear, I don't know enough about this to give a thumbs up about Bauer as a person as we're internet dweebs, but I think the FO should really consider this as that's the kind of major piece they need if they think he has moved into a Vick/Watson category versus current Wander Franco terribleness. Big big tangent here, but I think that Clevinger comment is a bit unfair for what actually happened there (from what I can glean from google anyways) and this is more of a Bauer train of thought. I'm going to say this again here as this is going to rub someone the wrong way just saying his name - I'm not saying sign Bauer, I'm saying it's worth a real conversation to hear from him out with the PR team and determine who he is as a person now and how much is he admitting past mistakes versus lip service to just try and get his job back. Miami is just uniquely situated as a lower baseball media market it could work out as a rehabilitation stop versus New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, or San Francisco where he'd be literally eaten alive. Just some food for thought here on a very difficult topic.

I think the issue with Bauer is that he's just a prick but not a prick with talent that overshadows it like Bonds.
Also I am about as far left as you can get so it's a weird sell to talk about how conservatives might react to a particular signing.Amy Adams, AKA Cinnamon MuffLogan Morrison: "If baseball didn't exist, I would probably be ... like a curler. Or a hairstylist."

But this was ultimately about Mike Clevinger can probably go through a lineup 1 time 30-40 times next season for optimistically 100+ innings, and he doesn't have this baggage as his issues got sorted out quickly and he had a fine 2023 as a citizen. It's a different analysis there unless there is something I don't know about. Chicago would have cut him if he were a problem. Lorenzen is a better idea still but maybe pricier. They need someone like that unless there is some major confidence in Faucher, McCaughan, or whoever to bust out of nowhere. They did it with Thompson and then Garrett, so you never know. Maybe this guy is in house already, but I'd strive to sign someone to increase your chances you get those innings. I don't think really any of us disagree they need another 100+ innings minimum here, if not 150+. I agree with Nick, it's going to get ugly in around August and especially September absent building in more innings earlier to decrease workloads from day 1.

there is still not a single thing that has come out that says that garrett is shut down for 3-4 weeks. I dont think that was accurate. last i read was something from skip saying he will need 4-5 bullpens before they put him in a spring game.

You may not be wrong about him as a person, but my South Florida question is - do we like Tyreek Hill?
