jazz also said today he will be meeting with Griffey about playing CF, plus Dee gordon, Victor Robles, and others to get some insight on CF. Im guessing juan pierre will play a role as well. Shockingly, he didnt lack confidence when he said if he stays healthy he will be at an MVP level and put up a "40/40, maybe even a 50/50"

I also think by the end of the year, the long term infield will have the right side and DH figured out long term, and i think Jerar Encarnacion will surprise and become the long term 1b of the future with Berry hopefully as the pure hitting DH guy. Something about Jerar reminds me a lot of Ozuna coming up, though ozuna had better numbers in the minors more consistently. the pure power though is super reminiscent of young ozuna. Would be huge if he can lock down 1b long term and give that traditional 1b power that we desperately need with the long term position players.
Ideally, 2 years from now, we roll out
C- Fortes/Banfield turning into Mack
1b- Jerar
2b- Arraez
SS- Watson/Cappe/Lewis/Amaya
3b- ???
LF- Sanchez/Burdick
CF- Jazz
RF- Bleday
DH- Berry
SP- Sandy, Eury, Luzardo, Cabrera, Meyer/Eder/Sixto/Garrett/Fulton
Just typing that out and how cheap it will be makes me furious that Bruce won't spend on that big time free agent deal.
This will be a post that looks incredibly stupid like some of my posts that had a future OF of Monte, Sierra, and Brinson, but that's an ideal world. We desperately need to figure out 3b long term though (MACHADO!!! or trade pitching for a young guy)Last edited by fish16; 02-10-2023, 06:20 PM.

Khalil Watson hit .232/.296/.395 in A ball.
Yidde Cappe hit .279/.299/.380 in A ball.
Surprised that not only have you not given up on them but that you have them in the show.
For the record, Berry-whose ship has apparently sailed after 141 professional ABs-hit .264/.358/.392 in A ball. And is younger than Nasim Nunez.

Insufferable to think a major league team could build around players with elite multiple tools? To me, a willingness to field a team that is not characterized by multiple above average tool players at virtually every position is insufferable.

Also, pretty telling from sixto today essentially calling himself fat in the past. who knows if he ever gets his shoulder healthy enough, but at the very least it looks like the work ethic is back. I know we've been over this time and time again, but him coming back and being anything close to what he was before would be such an unexpected huge boost.
Another interesting thing from today's media day, possibly completely meaningless or maybe it's a good sign- rogers said he watched tape of 2021 and 2022 and said he had an epiphany watching the tape and knows what went wrong last year. To me, it seemed very clear there was something mechanically off with him, and that then led to a blatantly obvious lack of confidence towards the middle of last year.
Again, this is all the usual spring training hope that every team has, but i have such high hopes for this pitching staff if everyone stays healthy. Sandy, Cabrera, Luzardo, 2021 Rogers, Cueto with Sixto as the closer is about as filthy as it gets. But we've also been doing this since i said we had a pitching surplus 2-3 years ago, it needs to actually happen, enough projecting, it's time to actually perform to the expectation we have based on how it looks on paper.
We knew this about Rogers months ago with how his usage changed. He's going to be fine. You've really been the only one low on him. - https://blogs.fangraphs.com/trevor-r...changed-it-up/

But what I came here for is Christian Javier's 5/$64 arbitration extension (2 FA years). He's better than Luzardo and 1 year closer to free agency.
I love this as a comp, it lines up well to give Luzardo 5/$35 (including this year) + a club option for say $18m. That's the deal if one is going to happen this offseason. That gets them 1 FA year and an option on a second.
If Luzardo is lights out this year (3+ WAR..... his last 135 IP he threw a 2.7 WAR also to note, that's last 7 stars of 21 and 22), he'd probably scale slightly lower than Javier and they'd be looking at a guaranteed 5/$60 instead.
So practically, they could wait until next offseason and not get screwed on an extension. But if they believe in him, they can turn that last year into an option more than likely and that is risk I'd buy to get the 2 FA years.
Same position here - try for Arraez, Luzardo, and Jazz deals. I think Arraez and Luzardo would take them assuming market value and Jazz would bet on himself like Ozuna (as he really should coming off the injury year).

I was thinking they had to have something in the works when ng said today that they weren’t satisfied with the bullpen. It was obvious, but you don’t say that publicly unless you have something. Another waste of a top 5 pick, and I think bleday will play a while, but left field was clearly going to be Sanchez and dlc this year
