Despite rumors of Miami interest in Tristan Casas, I haven't seen much discussion of him here. My initial thought was that no, you don't deal a quality arm for a first baseman's potential. However, the more I look at Casas, the more I see an Austin Riley-type bat.

you absolutely deal a quality arm like pablo with only 2 years left on his contract for a guy like Casas who could be a stud for cheap for 6 years. The sox arent going to trade him for Pablo though so i think thats out of the realm of possibility.

Lopez and Cooper and Wendle or Berti. Maybe that works. Regardless, my first choice for a trade remains the Yankees, with Peraza and their CF prospect coming to Miami for Lopez, Rojas, and Max Meyer.

It was talked about a little, but the consensus seems to be that Boston is unwilling to include him. He's unproven, so there's always that risk, but he'd be worth going after IMO. If you could somehow land him and Rafaela (assuming they think Rafaela can play CF in 2023 at some point), then sign a Cueto and RP, in addition to the Segura signing, that's not the ideal offseason, but that's one I think you can feel ok about. I don't think they're going to end up getting Casas, though, and Mish doesn't usually tend to throw out names until after the fact on deals.

Because castano is terrible and cueto is a reliable veteran arm that can eat 150-170 innings and allows you to trade Pablo and rogers for hitters without feeling it too bad in the back end of the rotation for a year until eury and Eder and Meyer are truly ready for big league action

Fantastic move. And got him for just one year reportedly so that perfectly bridges the gap to the next round of players coming in. I wonder if they were just waiting on him to sign to pull the trigger on Pablo trade or now that he’s in they will more actively shop him. Kim has gotten crap deservedly and we will need to see what she does before the year starts, but the cueto and segura signings are perfect

it's a shame that this team has no money or foresight because with correa not going to the mets likely now, he seems like someone who could be stolen on a short term deal like the twins signed him to last year. Signing Cueto and Correa, then trading pablo for say verdugo and rafaela, then trading for reynolds with Rogers and Meyer/Eder + prospects, youd have a playoff team.

That's really an unreal team. But they are going to have to try to do that but switch Correa for Rojas or Wendle. But if we did have an owner willing to take a huge swing on Correa with such a low payroll, that's easily a wild card contender with the potential for more, plus next year you add 1 more year of experience and innings being built up for Luzardo and Cabrera plus Eury coming in, that's a title contender.

We will see what happens now though that we know trades of pitching are coming.

No, it isn't. He's that vet innings-eater starter that they never sign but always need.

It also helps absorb the potential/likely loss of Pablo (or another starter) in a move for a bat.

Completely agree. No reason we shouldn't try to jump on Correa.

the dodgers havent been discussed for Pablo very much, but for some reason i feel i could see them coming out of nowhere and nabbing pablo. And i could see that deal going 1 of two ways. If we are confident in getting reynolds, we can go for 2 of their top 100 prospect infield bats. Say Pablo and Rojas for Vargas and Busch and maybe a bullpen arm they like. Or maybe they just go for Gavin lux again. Im not sure how those values line up but id be cool with trading pablo for lux. Then you get reynolds for Rogers and prospects.

Or you go the prospect route, Busch is a likely 1b with huge power so he's the heir apparent at 1b (or maybe you just give them cooper and slot him in at 1b right away) and Vargas is a longterm Kris Bryant type defensive guy with versatility to play corner OF, 3b and 1b. That scenario would look something like

first one i think would be more floor than ceiling and more expensive up front, but 2nd option would be a huge swing and hope you hit on busch and vargas and get two long term position players before their service time clocks really start. It's riskier, but if they are really confident in their ability to get reynolds, i think id like the 2nd one as a small market team. I love the bat on busch and vargas and both of their bats fit into what they have added recently- Vargas has unreal plate discipline, almost 1/1 k:bb and .300 average, and Busch has monster power and k's a lot but also walks a ton as well. Both super high OBP. I think id love that trade. No idea if that value lines up though. Fuck the prospects if it doesnt, just add some lower level guys the dodgers like.

Both mlb and BA have Busch and Vargas as their 3 & 4 prospects in the system after Cartaya and Miller. BA hasnt come out with their top 100 list but MLB.com has them at 41 and 42 in the top 100. For context they have meyer at 43. that might be a lot for Pablo, but they have the money to sign guys and if we need to give them a Fulton, Salas/ Lewis/ Cappe/ etc, so be it. They are ML ready, fit in with what we are trying to do, play positions of need long term, and will be super cheap for 6 years.

I think the two of them and a RP for Cooper, throw in Rojas, and Pablo makes a lot of sense for both teams.
