Want to get in early with a prediction that Watson won’t be a “surefire stud” like fish16 predicted. A lot can go wrong there (beyond injuries).
I’m not saying the Pirates would absolutely deal Reynolds with us offering Watson as the headliner but I sure hope Kim Ng tried that.
lou, we’ll know what level of incompetence we are dealing with if the FO doesn’t have Cabrera up with the big team by the 2nd week of June.

Unless this is all a big strategic ploy and they are waiting for Pitt, Oak, and Balt to blink on the most beneficial deal for Reynolds, Laureano, Mullins, or Hays. There is shockingly inventory here with MANY CF available all at different price points. It's mind numbing.

I just hope the team realizes what a great asset Eder is. Best kept secret is that Eder was better than Meyer at Pensacola - in every part of the stat line. I'm thinking the year off will equate to massive lower body strength development for a guy who was mentioned by some scouts as the best minor league pitcher last season prior to his TJS.

1 Sandy
2-4 Rogers, Luzardo, Eder (let's keep all the core lefties)
5 Pablo/Hernandez
6 Eury/Cabrera
7 Meyer/Sixto
8 Fulton (let's keep the lefties!)
(And keep Poteet and the fringe guys)
It really boils down to two of Eury, Cabrera, Meyer, and Sixto gotta go. We can agree all day how to rank the first 3, but there is a deal to be made there once we chuck in Bleday/Burdick and maybe they can even keep two of them if Sixto and Salas/Lewis.
Eury/Meyer
Cabrera or Sixto
Bleday/Burdick
"No One" or Salas/Lewis
That foursome gets you a CF monster. I think anyways.

On the 8 starters for our "rotation". If we don't double up with starters in those games, each for 3,4,5 innings, we'll be predictably screwed. Let's be clear, we go into this knowing that Hernandez, Lopez, Luzardo, and maybe Rogers are 4-5 inning guys, especially early in the season. You want our BP responsible for half our innings? If we start the season like that we'll be 2-10 before we know it.

200 - Sandy
160 - Rogers (360)
150 - Luzardo (510)
150 - Pablo (660)
125 - Hernandez (785)
100 - Cabrera/Meyer (885)
200 - Bender, Floro, Pop (1085)
100 - Bleier, Okert (1185)
Let's just sale up to 1200 to make it easy. That's fair.
Make it 1300 with Meyer AND Cabrera. Maybe the trade is Eury, Bleday, Salas/Eder, and Salas/Lewis ya know?
Last 100-200 - Poteet, Head, Holloway, Sixto mid-season (maybe), Neidert, Garrett, Yacabonis, Armstrong, your boy Velez, who knows.
They are good. Sandy and Rogers can't get hurt, but every team can say that.
This is why getting Bednar, Trivino, or Sulser is helpful as that's 50-70 more, and let's trade Eury and keep Cabrera, Meyer, and Sixto as they help "now."

But get them to trade Pablo/Cooper for Marsh/J. Jackson and a prospect, then trade for Kiermaier, then sign/acquire another innings eater, and maybe another bench player a week before the season. That works too. In reality, this needed to be done in December.

Interesting stat on Sanchez OF defense from FG - 97th-percentile outfield jump and 71st-percentile sprint speed
So he gets moving faster than everybody out there and is well above average in speed to make up further ground.
Wouldn't it be something if they get the last laugh and they are OK out there. Garcia was great his last 400+ innings out there too.
So much crow will have to be eaten if these guys play reasonable below average CF defense (which is Reynolds/Mullins levels).
I still say trade for one (because Reynolds can HIT also), but glimmer of hope.

It's time. You gotta shift your heads from sisters of the poor to winning every game. It's hard, I get it. But it's time.

let the first half of the year play out and then if it doesn’t work by the deadline then make a deal. I think this offense is already tremendously improved from last year. Doesn’t mean they are a top tier offense but they’ve added stallings, wendle, a healthy Cooper and Anderson, soler, and Garcia, and you still have jazz and Jesus Sanchez who can realistically be expected to take another step. I don’t think this need for a pure center fielder is as dire as you make it out to be if any of these guys can just not be an albatross defensively
plus id like to see more from burdick and bleday to see if you have an internal option less than a year away without having to trade away 6 years of multiple team controlled starting pitchers who are top of the rotation talentsLast edited by fish16; 04-01-2022, 01:04 PM.
