Then why isn't already done? If it's a trade, it takes two to tango. If it's a Free Agent. We're saying Chris Taylor is the long-term solution?

    • I’m with Nick here. Really not a fan. Just seems like we’re getting a lot of “professional hitters“ and still lacking in the same places we lacked two weeks ago. I love the Stallings move but at the end of the day they’re getting a bunch of people towards the end of their primes*, whose primary value is on defense. Defense is important but with the bats that we have, we’ve got to get a big bopper. If that doesn’t happen I’m not sold on any of this. If it does happen then I’m a big fan of this trade as a complementary depth tape piece. It all depends on the big picture.

*Did anyone have any idea that Wendle was 32? I sure didn’t.

        • I'm honestly surprised Brinson was the first to go over Isan, especially with the hole in CF, but I guess they're confident enough in de la Cruz to let him go finally.

I get where you're coming from. As it stands right now they've improved, but not enough yet. There's still more work to be done for it to be a complete offseason/to address all the holes we had or needed to fill.

Let's see what happens before writing it all off as nothing. FWIW, Mish is still saying they're not done (nor should they be). I agree, I'd like a big bat.

              Lewis Brinson's final stats with the #Marlins: .203/.248/.325 slash line, 55 OPS+ 23 HR, 102 RBI, 84 runs scored, 296 Ks in 1,056 plate appearances (28% K rate) over 320 games

              • It's another "viewed as a whole" move. Perhaps not mind blowing on its own, but it improves the bench/team, but is not "THE" move we still need. Hopefully we'll be able to make that big move, and can look at it "viewed as a whole" and say wow they did a good job.

                • Why are we upset at this point? Judge as a whole not as a part. A lot of moving pieces still. This is this ownerships last shot to win anyone over. Give it the full offseason.

They've added probably 6+ WAR to the team adding Head, Garcia, Stallings, and Wendle, and losing from the active roster Thompson and presumably Alfaro and Berti. They did this for around $16+m (subtracting Alfaro/Berti arbitration), and gave up Thompson, Nicolas, Scott, and Misner (and Alfaro and Berti). This seems very smart to me overall. We can bitch about Garcia's 4th year, and I still think the Stallings package was heavy, but Wendle's was light and overall, this is a big improvement. This also ignores these guys may be replacing negative WAR players ultimately.

They need to get a few more guys, but I see this as the depth moves have just presented themselves first and the big one is coming. I can't imagine a scenario they hold onto every major pitcher and don't get a large bat.

                      @CraigMish
Marlins trade Catcher Jorge Alfaro to the San Diego Padres per sources.

Damn they managed to pull this off last minute. I kinda like the moves they are making. We are getting better at each position. Wandle was an all-star and 3 WAR player last year. Much better than the likes of Isan Diaz, Marrero and whatever else the used last year

                      • Mish saying Alfaro has been traded to the Padres for an unknown return.

                        EDIT:

                        Marlins will get a PTBNL.

                        • Supposedly the Marlins are talking to Kenley Jansen.

Better be cheap for a name brand reliever.

But Kenley, Floro, Bender, Elisier, Pop, Head, Bleier, and Okert probably project as a top 5-10 bullpen. Before Fish16 yells at me, Marlins were 7th best last year and Kenley would easily replace the fine work of Cimber, Curtiss, Yimi, and Holloway (excellent reliever splits).

                            • The funny thing is, they tried to sign him last time he was a FA for a lot of money, and they certainly would have traded him by now had he signed them.
