I’m with Nick here. Really not a fan. Just seems like we’re getting a lot of “professional hitters“ and still lacking in the same places we lacked two weeks ago. I love the Stallings move but at the end of the day they’re getting a bunch of people towards the end of their primes*, whose primary value is on defense. Defense is important but with the bats that we have, we’ve got to get a big bopper. If that doesn’t happen I’m not sold on any of this. If it does happen then I’m a big fan of this trade as a complementary depth tape piece. It all depends on the big picture.
*Did anyone have any idea that Wendle was 32? I sure didn’t.Originally posted by Madman81Most of the people in the world being dumb is not a requirement for you to be among their ranks.

Let's see what happens before writing it all off as nothing. FWIW, Mish is still saying they're not done (nor should they be). I agree, I'd like a big bat.

Lewis Brinson's final stats with the #Marlins: .203/.248/.325 slash line, 55 OPS+ 23 HR, 102 RBI, 84 runs scored, 296 Ks in 1,056 plate appearances (28% K rate) over 320 games

It's another "viewed as a whole" move. Perhaps not mind blowing on its own, but it improves the bench/team, but is not "THE" move we still need. Hopefully we'll be able to make that big move, and can look at it "viewed as a whole" and say wow they did a good job.

They need to get a few more guys, but I see this as the depth moves have just presented themselves first and the big one is coming. I can't imagine a scenario they hold onto every major pitcher and don't get a large bat.

@CraigMish
Marlins trade Catcher Jorge Alfaro to the San Diego Padres per sources.
Damn they managed to pull this off last minute. I kinda like the moves they are making. We are getting better at each position. Wandle was an all-star and 3 WAR player last year. Much better than the likes of Isan Diaz, Marrero and whatever else the used last year

But Kenley, Floro, Bender, Elisier, Pop, Head, Bleier, and Okert probably project as a top 5-10 bullpen. Before Fish16 yells at me, Marlins were 7th best last year and Kenley would easily replace the fine work of Cimber, Curtiss, Yimi, and Holloway (excellent reliever splits).
