  • im also super excited to see what jesus sanchez and jazz do this year. Sanchez looked like an absolute stud by the end of the year and Jazz's final numbers arent indicative of his impact and potential. I wouldn't be shocked at all to see either of these guys or both of them take a significant step forward. Jazz has obvious weaknesses right now, but minor tweaks and improvements, which can be expected given how young he is, can make a huge impact on his overall numbers.

    • At this point, Conforto is the best choice to me and in my opinion given the years and money I think he's going to end up getting relative to guys like solar, Schwarber, and Castellanos, he's the best choice. Give him 2 years 20 million off a down year with a mutual option for the 2nd year. Or 3 years 30 million or something like that. Then do a marsh like deal and go into the season with this:

      C-Stallings
      1b- Aguilar/Cooper
      2b- Jazz
      SS- Rojas
      3b- Rojas
      LF- Sanchez
      CF- Marsh
      RF- Conforto/Garcia
      DH- Conforto/Garcia

Then you have wendle as a super utility guy who is apparently going to be playing somewhat close to every day according to the people covering the team. That's about the best option they have now unless you do a more major trade for Reynolds or a guy like Laureano who would still be my favorite trade target. Would not at all mind a combo of signing conforto and trading for laureano

      Wouldnt hate tommy pham either

      • I truly don’t think the team is as bad as they wound up being last season. I think we got unlucky with injuries. But I also think they needed to make several moves and they thus far have only done 1.5.

completely agree with this. A lot is riding on the rotation staying healthy and figuring out which 2 guys will be able to hold down the last 2 spots, but if we do figure that out our rotation wont allow us to be quite that bad.

Not about not signing Castellanos specifically, but because you have so much money to theoretically spend, and clearly no intention on spending it. A premium player wanted to play here and got less years and dollars than expected to play for a division rival.

Not upset about not signing Jensen and, again, it’s not about Castellanos in particular (I wasn’t a huge fan of signing him anyway). It’s just a clear signal their plan is to draft > trade > pray it works out. And that fucking sucks.
I’m willing to see how the rest of the off-season plays out, but if this is essentially the team, plus a Conforto/Soler, and a mediocre to bad closer; I will totally be in the same boat. I don’t see the point in not spending and also hoarding your prospects. If that’s what you want to do, why even own a team? I’m ok with passing on Castellanos and Jansen in a vacuum, but paying Castellanos what he got was a much better option than paying Garcia what he got, and if they did that because they were scared they’d get left out of the OF market, they miscalculated because there are similar or better players still out there. And as far as the prospects go, you’re more likely for those guys to lose value over the next few years than gain value. Cash in on some of them now, and buy a player you know is good, and you won’t even have to break the bank in spending to do so. It just feels like they either had a bad plan, or didn’t know how to execute it properly. Again, they could still prove that wrong, but as the days go by I become more and more pessimistic that they are going to do anything to actually improve the team. And if that’s the case, I honestly hope they lose as much as possible and this group becomes an even bigger laughing stock.

            • The tough thing is that our division rivals spent so much more than us and we’re already better than us. So how are we supposed to be better than them now? Improvement from Jazz and Sanchez is only going to get us so far. Catcher is better, outfield significantly worse. Doesn’t give me a lot of hope.

hence part of the real reason Jeter is no longer here...I do believe Jeter & Sherman had words about this. Also, it's looking like the Realmuto trade could be almost as bad. That is two trades that just f*cked the whole rebuild. You might be able to get away with 1 of them being a disaster but not both. Also just whiffing on drafting a bat that your system didn't develop is yet another inescapable huge problem. Let's face it, Jeter is a coward, and didn't stick around for the problems he caused. He wanted Sherman to fork out money to cover up his mistakes, and Sherman was pissed and didn't want to do it, so Jeter took his ball & glove and ran away, and the national media pounds on Sherman and doesn't say a word negative about Jeter.

Sherman was pissed he was being asked to spend on FA's because Jeter messed up HUGE trades and failed to develop anything but pitching. Had Brinson & Harrison worked out I think Sherman might have been more amenable to spending money

This is why MLB needs to seriously look at doing something about Sherman. He wasn't the right guy & Manfred knew it, but Jeter was involved so he felt obligated to give Jeter the chance. Now with Jeter out of the way, to avoid an even more embarrassing franchise in Miami, he has to find a better owner or Sherman needs to find a new partner who will promise to infuse money into the Marlins.

Hahaha everything was being approved by Jeter before it was done. Even Mish has agreed to this. Mish has even said there were several trades since the deadline last year that were for big names that Jeter refused to approve because they would be an admission of his horrible management - Jeter's ego above the team.

Of course it needs his approval, just like Sherman I'm sure can veto a trade. That doesn't mean he's the one negotiating the details.

I don't disagree with this, but nothing will be done. They let Loria run the team into the ground for 20 years.

                            • Soler signed. 3 years 36 million. Opt outs for solar after each year. So likely a 1 year deal
