We don’t a guy we really need (given what has transpired post-lockout) and we allow a dreaded division rival to sign him. We are so fucking weak.

im cool with not going for castellanos at that price. I will reserve judgment on Jansen until I see the roster opening day, but its clear they don't actually intend to spend the money needed to win at a high level. To me, what they've shown so far is that they want to win, but at their cost and while not going anywhere near a payroll that is anywhere close to out of their comfort level.
Like I said, ill wait to see what they do end up doing before opening day before making a big deal out of not signing jansen, but if not signing him was just because they don't want to spend any money and not necessarily because they currently intend on signing other guys prior to opening day, they need to sell the team. 1 year, 16 million for jansen is a great deal and one that would have made a ton of sense for us. Spending money without giving a ton of years and adding a valuable piece is what I've been asking for and it would have really solidified our pen.
Let's let it play out and give them till opening day to see if they really do have intentions of making major additions, but as of now this ownership group looks about done here soon.

Little bit of a pick me up in the midst of the horrible depression that is being a Marlins fan.

Not feeling any depression here. Nothing but excitement for a new season.
Should the Marlins have shucked out 20% of their payroll for a mid-thirties reliever? Don't think so. Should the Marlins be in a rush to sign an overpriced CF guy? There's plenty of time for that later if necessary. I just want to see the team do the most with what it has.
No set lineup! Jazz is okay atop the order vs a RH starter, but drop him way down vs. lefty. Same goes for Jesus Sanchez. Perfect #2 hitter behind Jazz vs righties but down to sixth or so vs southpaws. A LHB would be nice to platoon with De La Cruz in the OF. Got a feeling that Austin Meadows could be coming our way in another deal with the Rays.Last edited by Lee Stone; 03-19-2022, 10:44 AM.

Lee's apparently got plenty of more time for a couple more 90-loss seasons.

Of all the low points of being a Marlins fan, for some reason this moment feels the lowest for me.
Not about not signing Castellanos specifically, but because you have so much money to theoretically spend, and clearly no intention on spending it. A premium player wanted to play here and got less years and dollars than expected to play for a division rival.
Not upset about not signing Jensen and, again, it’s not about Castellanos in particular (I wasn’t a huge fan of signing him anyway). It’s just a clear signal their plan is to draft > trade > pray it works out. And that fucking sucks.Originally posted by Madman81Most of the people in the world being dumb is not a requirement for you to be among their ranks.

So at this point, the only hope for a higher payroll is a sustained period of success with this current core that would eventually be successful, which in turn would turn more fans out, which would in turn lead to higher payrolls. It's essentially put this team between a rock and a hard place. They cant spend money they don't have, and they cant grow revenues without a more successful product, which is incredibly hard to do without spending the money. So they are caught in this purgatory unless they spend money that hasn't been generated by revenue.
I will reserve judgment until opening day because its clear they are trying to make moves, but at this point they have failed as an ownership group at the one thing that needed to be different. They can make all these improvements to improve the back end of the organization (IFA/DRAFT) but unless they are willing to spend the money to really compete, they will have to rely on getting the rebuild perfect, and that's just impossible.

no one wants to hear from samson, but I did agree with one thing he said the other day on Lebatard's show regarding Sherman- it's a cardinal sin of an owner to come out and say we plan on spending a lot of money. You either spend it on players or don't, but by doing what he did in his press conference and saying that, all he did was get the hopes of the fanbase to a crazy level without any deals in place that he knew would actually get the base pumped. Just a stupid thing to say publicly unless you had something in place or you actually were trying to be spending on the big time free agents.

i guess their plan is aguilar and cooper at 1b/DH, but man id really like to just give lewin diaz a shot for 2 months and see what he has. i feel like he's done enough at the minor league level and he's now 25. let him sink or swim or at the very least just see if he can show something. If he's not a guy they will need to address 1b soon, although we can always move an OF to 1b. think it will end up that way anyways barring 2 more hitters added given cooper's injury history, but id just like to see him get a shot.
If cooper can finally stay healthy that is a legit impact hitter, but I just have no confidence in him being available until he's actually been healthy for an entire year.
We absolutely need 2 more bats, but Anderson and cooper being healthy and available for the entire year is essentially 2 in house additions given their lost years last year. Both of those when healthy can be expected to give you around an .800 OPS, but again availability is a question that they can only answer by proving it.Last edited by fish16; 03-19-2022, 01:28 PM.
