They just cant rely on him and pencil him in at a spot. But spending the money necessary and making it so that he can be a bright spot without truly relying on him for production would probably be the best use of that money. If he was getting $10 million id non tender him, but I cant imagine he is worth all that much in arbitration given his injury history.
I'm talking purely in a "if they're determined to get rid of him" manner of speaking, I'd be ok with it. I think he's good to keep around especially with the DH to help keep him healthy, but if they're determined to ship someone out to save money, it wouldn't be the end of the world if he goes.......but don't just dump him for nothing.

They're reportedly still going after Seager too...

    • BTW, Blue Jays are likely out for Pablo for Moreno (if that was ever a thing). They signed Gausman, have Berrios, Ryu, and Manoah, and looks like they are pushing for Kikuchi as a last starter. This is smart of them as they shouldn't trade him if they have payroll to spend.

Angels have Ohtani, Syndeegarrd, P. Sandoval, Detmers, and J. Suarez. They really could use Pablo. I'd gut them for Marsh/friends for Pablo and Cooper (who would play a lot for them 1B/DH). Maybe throw them Neidert or Poteet also.

This seems within the realm of probability to me considering we know the Marlins love Marsh and wanted him 1-1 for Meyer. Just demolish their farm system for 2-3 more players, and still sign Chris Taylor.

      • Corey Seager 10/$325. Rangers are spending some serious money.

I hope Bryan Reynolds is a throw in!

But Stallings is solid. This makes sense as long as they didn't trade anyone too important. Stallings/Alfaro is a top 12 combo in baseball. Yes I keep Alfaro, but we'll see if they cheap out and go with Fortes/Jackson/Henry.

              • Hopefully its Brinson, Harrison, and Diaz, but I can also accept Fortes, Henry, and Jackson.

                • It's Zach Thompson, Kyle Nicolas, and Connor Scott according to Heyman. That feels like a pretty good deal for Miami, no?

                  • It's funny. I previously said I thought Garcia would be the FA bat they acquire, and I said I felt Stallings would be the catcher. Far from star power with either move, but both solid additions that make them better immediately. There still has to be at least one more big shoe to drop. They basically still have their entire stable of top prospects and extra starters to move for really just one major need. That's not too shabby, as long as they do go out and fill that need. If they really are in on the FAs previously mentioned, that would mean another impact bat incoming, along with the resources to add another significant piece.

                    • Thompson, Nicolas and Connor Scott go to Pirates. I predict a bright future for Scott, who is young and rapidly getting better/stronger. Thompson joins the rotation immediately and Nicolas should be ready for 23. Great return for Pirates if Thompson pitches as well as he did for the Marlins.

Note: Connor Scott performed a lot better in High A than Bleday did ... and at a younger age.

That seems like a lot to me. I figured Thompson/Nicolas sort of guy would be the main piece, but both seems like a lot. A scout in Miami Herald thought Nicolas was a future Kevin Millwood workhorse.

This is a really nice deal for Pittsburgh for an older catcher. If Stallings is a 2+ WAR catcher for 3 seasons, this will be fine. But it's a small punch in the gut to lose an extra secondary piece.

                        • Hmm. Corey Saeger and Marcus Semien will make as much as the entire Marlins team this season.

The universal reception right now seems to be that Miami did really well here. Maybe Nicolas turns into a Kevin Millwood, but what are the odds that he does? I would say it's more likely that none of these three ever amount to anything more than just ok, than any of them turn into much. And while Stallings is far from a star, you're talking about a solid catcher in a league short on catching, who is very good defensively and should be a nice piece for our young pitchers to work with.

                              • Big fan. I like Nicolas a lot and it may be a slight overpay but I think it’s a big big upgrade even if Stallings doesn’t hit.
