joecapMARLINS: #Ranger asked about Chris Volstad but #Marlins not interested
This front office is not stupid. Volstad still has a full year left to go of making the minimum and then three yeas of arbitration left. This front office doesn't trade guys that they don't have to pay more than the minimum.
And, Fip, if you're trying to make me mad, it's not going to work.

Dangling Volstad wouldn't be the worst idea, considering his performance over the last few seasons and who's ready/near ready in the minors (West, etc.) and how he'd likely bring back a halfway decent prospect or reliever, but there's no reason to trade him just to get rid of him.

the rumor going around is:
Rangers get Cantu
Marlins get a bag filled with air that has been contaminated by second-hand smoke. The Marlins want two bags. Rangers might not be willing to budge. Marlins might send Volstad over for that second bag.

Add pitcher Chris Volstad to the list of Marlins players generating interest from teams around the league in the final days before Saturday’s non-waiver trading deadline.
The Texas Rangers asked about Volstad, their top draft pick in 2005 out of Palm Beach Gardens High. But the Marlins don’t want to give up him or any of their pitching.
Teams also have asked about Leo Nunez and Ricky Nolasco. The Marlins so far have replied: No and no.
In fact, the Marlins may not be big players this week. Jorge Cantu appears likely to head out of the door, but he may be it.
First-base Logan Morrison made his ninth straight start today at left field for Class AAA New Orleans. If Cantu is traded, the Marlins will start Donnie Murphy and Wes Helms at third base for a week or so until Chris Coghlan is ready to take over there full-time.
Cogs played third base in the minors, most recently 11 games last year. He was a second baseman before he played one game in left for New Orleans and then was called up by the Marlins.
