Let's think about the floor here though. Especially with rosters going to 26, so they basically can carry another OF. They just need 1 of Monte, Brinson, Sierra, and VVM to hit a .700+ OPS vs RHP and another to have a .700+ OPS vs LHP, platoon them, and that's a likely 2+ WAR player. They all have been spoken as superior defensive/speed options at times.

      2018
Kepler .224/.319/.408 - awesome defense, slightly above average base running - 2.6 WAR
Pillar .252/.282/.326 - awesome base running, just below awesome defense - 2.0 WAR

      2017
Pillar .256/.300/.404 - awesome defense, slightly above average base running - 2.0 WAR

      2016
      L. Martin - .247/.306/.378 - awesome base running and defense - 2.4 WAR
Ellsbury - .263/.330/.374 - Just below awesome base running and barely above average defense - 1.8 WAR

If they have better regulars than that with Anderson, Diaz, Alfaro, Cooper, and two free agent signings (Didi and a 1B/3B/OF), with their current pitching which should improve, you can live with that until Bleday, Scott, Misner, and Osiris pop up. It's not great, but it's not a liability. That's what I'm hoping for. Let's not have a liability.

Maybe I am too optimistic, but one of those 4 has to do something eventually. Maybe Monte whiffs under 33% of the time and is pretty OK?

BTW, Brinson has a .212/.273/.387 (.660) LHP split. His defense is pretty solid on his 2019 split. His not displaying any sort of base running prowess yet. But he is never on base.

Just saying, this may not be far fetched. Even Brinson is teetering on that threshold as a shorter side platoon if he gets even a little better and someone can hit a righty.

Brinson has been nowhere near a .700 OPS guy in the majors. Sierra has never been a .700 OPS guy even in the minors. VVM has a mid .500 OPS at A-Ball right now. With Monte we'll see but his minor league numbers are very similar to Brinson's minor league numbers.

See above, Brinson is actually close vs LHP. But it is a SSS. I know he stinks, but even a small uptick may get him there. Of course, the defense *must* follow. Interestingly, he's reversed this in AAA this year and is hitting RHP but not LHP. Who knows. Maybe he can connect on enough to hit some bombs and be a useful platoon member.

Sierra's 2019 AA line is what I'm talking about, and he'd only need to do that against a lefty or righty. He also has a .718 vs LHP this year FWIW. Maybe he is a nothing Gorkys Hernandez type, but maybe there is a little Jarrod Dyson in him. Dyson didn't do anything until he was 25 and Sierra is 23. It could happen even if it's a lower probability.

VVM does have a low BABIP (.280) in Jupiter and only whiffing 12.3% of the time. I think that's pretty interesting for a guy who hasn't played much organized baseball for a few years and has been a little banged up. He's also doing better in July and has a heavy lefty side split (.700+ OPS versus .550ish). SSS of course, but maybe that K rate starts translating into hits.

Monte is the real hope here. Let's just hope he whiffs under 33%, plays above average defense, and isn't a liability on the base paths. You're going to get Kepler 2018 which would be really great.

I'm not trying to sugar coat this, just trying to set a realistic floor that these guys are platoon dudes who could maybe be useful to bridge the gap to Bleday/Scott. If they can platoon something close to 2 WAR just with some defense and a little hitting, it's not a total disaster. I'm optimistic on some good news here with these 4 that 2 of them can turn into just a .700 OPS bat vs RHP or LHP and play good defense. Combined with maybe Ramirez and Dean can hit in LF a little, and we're out of Reggie Abercrombie land.

i think its way too early to look into VVM's stats. He hasnt played in a long time, is playing in a terrible ballpark, but he is showing really impressive plate discipline and is stealing bags efficiently and supposedly is MLB ready defensively already. I think you wait till the middle of next year before we can really say what he is either way. I still think he is a good long term prospect who desperately needs to add some strength this offseason, which im sure the marlins will have a plan for him to work on.

just seeing video of will stewart pitching. IDK why but i thought he was one of those big 6'5+ lefties and im just finding out he's relatively small. 6'2 175.

Edward Cabrera with 10 k's tonight and just 1 walk in 6 innings. He's gone from a guy with a pretty comfortable floor but not that high ceiling to one of the highest ceiling arms in the system. Legit ace or #2 type guy.

Edward Cabrera K’d 10 tonight for @JaxShrimp and I was told this week in terms of talent, he is right there with Sixto Sanchez. Internally the Marlins feel he is developing into a potential ace.
                      Pretty enormous praise

conner scott is starting to get me excited after months of being dissappointing. Dont know if this is the best comparison, but he reminds me a little of dexter fowler in that he has some speed but he's not a guy who is going to steal 40 bags, but he's also got some power but not a ton of power, and just an overall pretty good hitter, as well as a good CF. Who are some other comparisons to him?

just looking at kolek's career numbers- he has a career 127/113 K/BB ratio in 159 innings total in 6 years and 5 actual years playing. I dont think its possible for a #2 overall pick to go any worse.

Evan Edwards just homered in extra innings to give Clinton a 5-3 lead. Incredible the impact he and Burdick have had on that Clinton team.
