#1 Cheaper Price(Reports are Vaughn gave us a overprice #)
#2 More Power(Think Vaughn hit is better but line drive guy)
#3 Can play corner OF and 1B(Vaughn 1B/DH)
I've noticed you have mentioned 1B for Bleday, but I haven't seen anyone else say that. From what I've read, people think he'll stick at a corner OF spot because he has a good arm, and handles himself decent enough out there.

As the guy continues to mash, I'm warming up to the idea of him at 4, even if Vaugh is on the board. I'll still worry they're passing up a perennial all-star, but they could use some big time power in the system. Of course, now they'll go under slot for someone random, lol.

Ya I think he sticks in RF and so does Miami. I am just saying he COULD play 1B too. Vaughn is 1B only while Bleday is RF but if u have 6 OF he could go to 1B

Jeter, Denbo, Hill, and Posada are all watching Bleday play tonight in the SEC tourney. He's 5-5 with 2 doubles right now.

It would seem that they are locking on him. It'll be interesting if Vaughn is there, who might be a slightly better prospect. Both seem to be great hitters, so I'm good with either. The track record of shorter 1B scares me a little bit with Vaughn, but I'd still be happy with him as the pick too.

Vaughn is better prospect but like said before 3 reasons they like Bleday more

              #1 Price
#2 Can Play RF and 1B
              #3 More Power

As of today it looks like

              #4 Bleday
#35 They want Greg Jones(College SS) but possible Nasim Nunez,Matt Lugo,Volpe,Brooks Lee(HS SS)
#46 They want another bat(Rece Hinds or College IF-Schunk,Wendzel,Strumpf) but will be looking at pitching IF still on board(Drey Jameson,Stinson)

Something to watch is if they save cash on any pick Rd 2 or 3 could be Hunter Barco OR Spencer Jones. Both are hurt and want like 2 million to sign

Both have power just Marlins think Vaughn is more doubles type power. Denbo wants guys who can play multiple places

Also Denbo loves the Cape Cod League which Bleday was name TOP Prospect

ya, bleday is going to be the pick. i was under the impression vaughn was this big time power bat whereas bleday is just a pure hitter type but with less power. if he has more power and he's the better and more versatile athlete, then he should absolutely be the pick.

                    • Bleday having more power is debatable. He didn't hit many HRs before this season, although he's raking them now. A lot of places still have Vaughn with a higher power grade. He's graded as a better hitter just about everywhere, also. Bleday gives you more value in the field.

I'm ok if it's Bleday, but they had better be right about him if they pass on Vaughn.

                      • On Mish's latest podcast, he said that last night wasn't the only place they were going on this scouting trip. That's not to say Bleday isn't going to be the target, but it sounds like they'll be headed to see Vaughn and others play in person as well.

                        • New MLB.com mock draft has the Marlins taking Vaughn at 4:

                          Marlins: Andrew Vaughn, 1B, California

As Jim Callis pointed out in his mock last week, these next three could go in any order. There are Vandy connections here, with Marlins scouting director DJ Svihlik having coached at the school last year, so it could easily be JJ Bleday, while Riley Greene would be the high school bat choice.

There's a new BA mock as well...does anyone know what they say about the Marlins pick?

                          • As long as they don't take a lefty high school catcher, I am fine.

It seems like it's going to be hard to fuck up Rutschman, Vaughn, Bleday, Witt, Abrams, and Greene.

I also think you go in that order but I won't argue against any.

                            • Here's the BA selection:

                              J.J. Bleday
                              Vanderbilt OF
                              Notes:
Bleday could be in the mix a spot higher given how well he’s closed out the season, but the Marlins were rolling deep during Vanderbilt’s game against Auburn in the SEC Tournament, when he went 5-for-5 with a pair of doubles. It's worth noting that Marlins brass, again headlined by Derek Jeter, also watched Hunter Bishop on Thursday night.
They have Rutschman, Witt, Abrams going 1-3. It's interesting that they say Bleday could go to Chicago. 4 is the highest we've seen him go, but it sounds like his stock is really soaring right now.
