if we pass on vaughn so help me god. And i could totally see us doing it with the way they continue to annoyingly stress athletes and guys who can play in the middle of the field and especially with the way denbo came off to guys who werent in shape in that athletic article.

what is bleday's power potential? I like what ive read about the bat but it seems to be yet another guy in the system without impact level pure power. After Monte harrison we have very little from jupiter on up in terms of power hitting. We need to be attacking impactful power bats between the draft, IFA, and free agency over the next few years.

23 HRs in 51 Games in the stacked SEC this year. Tied for most in the nation.

Bleday is NOT a big time athlete-he is RF/1B type but has power. He is 6'3 210

The issue with Vaughn seems to be his price. Marlins love him but they wanna stay around 6.6 million(prefer closer to 6 million) so they can spend later in draft too and at this point seems he is asking for MORE. Doesn't hurt that our scouts got Bleday to Vandy in 1st place

Vaughn is contact/line drive guy with some power
Bleday is more power and a LHB

Also dont forget #1 Pick next year is Spencer Torkelson who is a "better" Andrew Vaughn

I'd be good with either Bleday or Vaughn.

I prefer Vaughn however if Bleday costs 750K less(and they use the cash later) i am cool with Bleday. $750,000 is alot in the draft-Rd 3 u call a few guys and see who will sign(Can get Rd 1 talent)

If it plays out like Fangraphs has in its mock I am fine(Bleday and 5 or 6 SS there at #35 and we take 1)

Actually could get the guy he is tied with too. Kody Hoese from Tulane is a 3B should go between 25-35

I would go Vaughn OR Bleday then SS at #35. SS there at #35 should be

                College-Greg Jones,Braden Shewmake, Will Holland,Josh Smith(SS for Jupiter in 2020)
HS-Nasim Nunez,Brooks Lee,Matt Lugo,Kylen Paris(Battle with Osiris for SS in Clinton with loser going to 2B or CF)

Passing on Vaughn for $750k would not be smart. Yes, Bleday has power, and I'm fine with him over someone like Abrams if that's what they decide, but Vaughn is on another level. He's probably the best bat in the draft. There are questions about Bleday's hit tool because of a hitch in his swing. The Marlins need power in the system, but if they pass on a guy who could potentially be a star just to save a little money for later picks, I think they'd be making a mistake. I've argued against a quantity over quality approach before, and I think it's even more evident now that some of the guys they had hoped could turn into high end bats are underwhelming. Last year the Marlins tried to save money in round 1, which helped them land Banfield later. While it was nice landing Banfield, wouldn't you rather have a guy like Nolan Gorman in the system rather than Scott and Banfield? I know I would. If you have the chance to get a player like that, you have to take advantage of it.

Also, I'm totally setting myself up for them to take Lodolo, or someone other than Vaugh/Abrams/Bleday and really screw this thing up. But hey, in 2022 they'll have a 40 man roster full of young replacement level players.

Wouldnt really be passing on Vaughn for 750K. Its passing on Vaughn because he wants 400-500K MORE than slot-they wanna do same thing as last year where they draft as much talent as possible

Should say I have no clue what Vaughn is asking for but thats the reason I have heard they are targeting Bleday

Note on Gorman and Liberatore-Yes we passed on them but #1 their price they told US was ALOT more than what they actually got and #2 Denbo was on Connor Scott for months. People should realize that every team who calls an agent/rep might get a different price. Example if Miami calls Jack Leiter he might say 5 million but if NY Mets call he might say 2 million and sign for that. Not FO fault they passed on that #

I understand why they would do that, I just don't agree with it, and I still don't agree with it for Gorman either, even if his price was much higher for Miami. I'd trade the entire 2018 draft for Gorman, wouldn't you? Not that it would have had to be that extreme, but it just goes along with the point that I'm trying to make that they should be going to quality over quantity. The same applies to Vaughn over Bleday. If Vaughn wants over slot, give it to him. $400k-$500k over isn't going to kill your ability to sign the rest of your class as long as you're smart about it. I'm sure Vaughn will be gone anyway, but I think passing on him would be a mistake.

                        New MLB.com mock:
                        4. Marlins: JJ Bleday, OF, Vanderbilt

Bleday, Vaughn and Florida high school outfielder Riley Greene could go 4-5-6 in just about any conceivable order. Miami's high-level executives may prefer a premium athlete like Abrams, but he may not get to No. 4. Vaughn is the reigning Golden Spikes Award winner and the best all-around hitter in the Draft, though Bleday and Greene aren't far behind and offer more defensive value.

Looking more and more like if Vaughn and Bleday are on board its gonna be Bleday

#1 Cheaper Price(Reports are Vaughn gave us a overprice #)
#2 More Power(Think Vaughn hit is better but line drive guy)
#3 Can play corner OF and 1B(Vaughn 1B/DH)

RHP Carter Stewart, who attended Eastern Florida State College after failing to sign with the #Braves as the No. 8 overall pick in last year’s draft, is in agreement on a contract with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks of the Japanese Pacific League, sources tell The Athletic.

Weird. Why not just wait a few weeks to see where you get drafted?

Exactly unless he got some crazy cash. He was looking at about $1.5 million but tons of talk his wrist is still messed up-I know we were looking at him at #35/46
