  • 2019 Draft

Marlins should have 3 of Top 40 Picks and if they are smart they take a guy who will take a deal but still has alot of talent unless someone really looks great

    Waayyyyy to Early Mock

    https://www.mlb.com/news/early-2019-...ft/c-280269044

2 College Catchers and 3 HS SS in Top 10. College guys like Drew Mendoza or Logan Davidson could move up

  • #2
Really need to continue sucking it up for that #1 pick.

#2 isn't bad IF Baltimore has #1. They are more screwed up than us. Could use pitching or a SS when they trade Machado

Top 3 Pick should be good and our pool $ should be VERY big next year. Take one of the College C and try to float someone to our 1S pick!! I just hope we learned NOT to blow all of our space on a HS P especially in next year's draft which has SS/C at the top

Wow, they've got us taking a kid from my hometown of Oviedo. Interesting.

Im really excited for the future after this past draft. It seems like we did really well according to experts and we will have a very high draft pick next year as well to add onto the guys currently in the system. I like having Denbo in charge a lot.

2019 Draft will be run by Gary Denbo/Dan Greenlee/DJ Svihlik(All 3 from Yankees). Should have Top 3 Pick AND will also get a Comp A Pick(3 of Top 40 Picks)

            Jon Heyman‏Verified account @JonHeyman
sources: DJ Svihlik has been named director of amateur scouting by the Marlins, replacing longtime scouting director Stan Meek.
More changes for the marlins today: cross checkers Steve Payne, Steve Taylor and Mike Cadahia were let go

Meek is staying in system because he is under contract for 2019 but will have NO role in picking players.

              2019 Draft #4 and #35-40

              Should be very easy pick

If JT Leaves then Adley Rutschman OR Shea Langeliers (College C)
If JT Stays then CJ Abrams OR Rece Hinds (HS IF Bat)

If JT is dealt in the offseason Rutschman OR Langeliers has to be the pick and watch them move VERY QUICKLY. If JT stays I would take a 5 tool HS bat

Long as we stay away from HS arms at #4 it should be a very good pick. I would stay away from OF only types(since we have 100 of them already) but have no issue if Riley Greene has a monster year is ranked #1 falls to #4 and we take him for slot or below. Always take talent!!!

                  C Rutschman
                  C Langliers
                  SS CJ Abrams
                  SS/3B/OF Rece Hinds
                  OF Riley Greene

are the guys I like right now(Will likely change) 3 HS bats and 2 college C. 1 thing to remember is Denbo wants to draft talent and we will have 3 of Top 45 picks so cash could factor into pick #4. Save some cash at #4 and take talent who falls some later like this year with Banfield

I'd take Witt too if he were to fall to us.

Think Baltimore or KC take him but ya if Witt Jr is there at #4 and his $ demand is nuts he would be my TOP PICK. Just don't think he will be around the other 5 guys all could be

                        Callis says

Even if the consensus best 2019 Draft prospects, Oregon State catcher Adley Rutschman and Texas high school shortstop Bobby Witt Jr., come off the board before Miami exercises the No. 4 choice, there should be plenty of attractive options. That decision could come down to Georgia high school shortstop C.J. Abrams versus California first baseman Andrew Vaughn. Other possibilities include Florida prep outfielder Riley Greene, Georgia high school right-hander Daniel Espino, Florida prep righty Brennan Malone and Baylor catcher Shea Langeliers.

I would pass on HS arms and Greene but would be fine with Langeliers/Abrams/Hinds or Vaughn

Vaughn is a 6'0 205lbs College 1B whose bat is ++ and likely would move very quickly. He would also probably give us a chance to save cash for later in the draft. Abrams is a 5 tool HS SS who is like Correa/Machado coming out of HS

I just really hope they will move past this having to have athletes. They had so many prospects they passed on in the first round last year that will be much better baseball players then Scott. Drafting athletes is all well in good but at some point you have to see that not all athletes who play baseball are good baseball players. They can't overlook better players because they aren't as athletic.

They will still be drafting athletes just NOT as much as they did in the past. Stan Meek's strategy was try to find the next Stanton which meant find a 3 sport guy in HS take him early so he will sign and cross fingers OR take an athlete whose 2nd sport was baseball. Denbo's strategy is take baseball players who are athletes.

Heard a story years ago that Miami took someone in like Top 5 Rd and the kid didn't even know the Marlins were in Miami(Was when we were Florida Marlins). He played baseball in HS but was football/basketball player really

I hope you are right but now they are like a broken record talking about how the players they drafted and acquired are athletes. So much so you could play a drinking game when you hear them talk. lol I am not anti athletes I just want them to get the best available and not focus to much on that one aspect.
