    Just stop Lee.

Outman has a .442 career BABIP and is nowhere near this good. Vargas and Cartaya should be good, and Busch is a DH which one can get in free agency for not much. A top 5-20 SP in baseball who may lead the league in innings through the remainder of his contract is worth more than this when they have 5+ other pitchers they can trade.

They need help but this isn't it. The help is another 1 massive P trade, floor Arraez/Jazz type guy, another massive deal, with a FA or 2nd enormous P trade, and then a third routine "Soler/Garcia/Segura" type deal or a mid-tier (Rosario, etc.) kind of trade. Hypothetically, Sandy *might* be able to accomplish all 3 of those things, but then you've kicked your contending window 2 more years down the road + will need to spend $175m+ in free agency to replace Sandy. The juice isn't worth the squeeze.

      • Perhaps Monteverde is AAA starter tonight or maybe he's been moved to big league club. Fitterer has replaced him for his scheduled start for Pensacola. Fitterer promoted from Beloit.

Who knows if it's right, but MILB.com has Monteverde starting for Pensacola tomorrow.

Thanks. I didn't see that. He normally follows Perez.

I don't know how many times I got to say it, but this organization is keenly aware of service time and they aren't promoting Monteverde who doesn't need to be protected this offseason after a SSS of AA success when they have floor four legitimate bullpen lefties (Puk, Scott, Okert, Nardi), plus Garrett once Cueto is back, plus Smeltzer, Castano, and Simpson on the 40 man, plus Eder coming potentially in August.

Simpson's stats are interesting BTW to point out another borderline prospect. He is striking out everything in AAA over his first 25 innings there with a .450 BABIP so numbers inflated. If he can figure out some control he has a real chance. To note he is throwing 5+ MPH harder than Monteverde for perspective and has a higher grade curveball than any pitch/control Monteverde has. Definitely below him on the pecking order, and I think we'd all agree Simpson realistically may not get MLB time this year as there are at least a half dozen lefties in front of him. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/jo...ats?position=P.

              • Evan Fitterer might be finally emerging. 6 Scoreless 1 hit 3 BBs 8 Ks in his AA debut.

                • Also Troy Johnston should be in AAA.

                  • Just watched Berry hit a triple. Hopefully he can turn this around. Yidde Cappe is a tall drink of water. Looks like he has a frame that could really put on some muscle. If he does he could be scary.

                    • Troy Johnston .276/.377/.672 with a .273 BABIP at AA this year. Struggled a little bit in his 100 ABs at AAA last year, but still don't understand the demotion. Get him back up to AAA.

                      • Monteverde 7 IP 0 runs 5 hits 2 BBs 9 Ks

                        0.35 ERA now.

                        • Despite getting knocked around a bit (the five hits matched his total hits allowed in his first three starts), he showed the ability to pitch out of trouble and toss 100 pitches. Congrats on what will be a MILB Player of the Month designation.

                          • The similarity between Yiddi Cappe and Hanley Ramirez at the same age is absolutely striking. The swing, speed, physique, the whole works. I see the next Miami star right there.

                            • The southern league that Monteverde is in is using an experimental ball that is making pitchers movement nuts compared to aaa and the bugs. Obviously he is pitching well but might explain a little bit of his success

Aren't all the other Southern League pitchers using the same ball? It sure hasn't helped Dax Fulton.
