ya, forced to start foolishly because the marlins kept trying to force him as a starter despite the fact it was clear he sucked. This while rojas was almost just as bad but doing it in AA to the tune of a nice little .610 OPS.

and hech is a brave now apparently. learn something new every day

I can’t believe I get to post and read posts here for free! It’s really entertaining!

*Except when I get a 2 week vacation cause the Marlins aren’t gonna win 60 games.

it's not ignoring the 2 years, it's comparing them in the time they have both been in the league. at the very least add in rojas' stats those 2 years in the minors and let me know how those compare. No one is arguing hech was good, im saying the opposite, but to act like these 2 arent similar guys is just not what the stats show

          • Alfaro missed a 3-Run HR by 5 feet. He swings at 95% of pitches thrown to him.

We gonna ignore Hech has about 700 more PAs in this time span?

Rojas is SS and Berti is UT till Jazz is ready then Rojas will either be traded or signed to cheap deal(3 yr) and be UT guy. Berti is likely the UT guy for 2020 so NO Herrera/Rivera

Yes, we are going to ignore that.

However, I think Hech is a perfect guy to sign next year as the bridge to Jazz squad forms. Hech is still a good defender and he hits lefties (.750ish OPS last 3 seasons combined. For real, 200+ PA). He's a good 25th man at presumably under $2 million. I think you can get by with Rojas, Berti, and Hech up the middle if Diaz struggles and Jazz needs some more time. Rojas RHP/Hech LHP at SS, and move Rojas literally anywhere else is smart. And Hech is obviously expendable if Jazz emerges quickly after the super 2 deadline.

                    Alfaro, Wallach
                    Cooper, _____
                    Isan, Berti
                    Rojas, Hech
                    ______
                    Ramirez
                    Brinson, Sierra
                    Anderson

Blank line Rendon and N. Walker, and I like that depth chart* with Lewin, Sanchez, Monte, and Jazz, and maybe Miller and VVM, looming in AA/AAA

*I know CF is a disaster but who cares, let them play, stick Ramirez there sometimes and move Cooper/Rojas to LF here and there, and get to Monte in the summer

                    • I’ve seen all I need to see from Brinson. Move on and just flip him for another struggling former top prospect who might be available for a change of scenery. Idk if it’s in his head at this point or if he just is the ultimate AAAA player but it’s not gonna work out here, quit forcing it and move on to evaluating any of the other 10 of guys we should have coming up in the next few years and sign a stop gap cf for next year. I wanted him this year but Adam Jones would be a good stop gap guy to add for a year while we give guys like monte and bleday and others the appropriate time to develop.

                      • How the heck does Brinson not have a home run this year in the majors? You would think if he closed his eyes every AB he would've run into one by now.

He doesn’t even look like he has the slightest bit of confidence at the plate. There are certain hitters who you see them walk in the batters box and they are in control of the ab and there are others who walk in the box and look like they are on their heals and are letting the pitcher take control of the at bat from the start. Every one of his ab’s look like the latter. His plate discipline and pitch recognition is still awful and it’s why he is consistently behind in counts and continues to strike out way too much

Hmm. I'm surprised to hear he HAS had his eyes open with how well he hits.

                            • I’ll give brinson this though, he does look like a hell of a baseball player just looking at him in the uniform. He’d be in my hall of fame of guys who look like they should be all stars just based on how he looks in a baseball uniform

I don't think you sign someone like Adam Jones because you don't want to block Monte if he's ready in June. This is another Granderson type signing to me for CF if anything. Or a Harold Ramirez type signing (or cheap Cooper acquisition) of some other CF guy who may work out as a backup. Hell, I'd rather just play Sierra for 2-3 months and see if you get a poor man's Dyson/Pierre. Dyson didn't become "good" until he was 27, and Sierra is 23 so you never know. Dyson had a .650 OPS in AA when he was 23. Sierra is a little above that in AAA right now, even if he is underwhelming overall. Or let's get real outside the box, and I bet Anderson isn't going to embarrass himself out there. If you sign Rendon, that may be your best longterm solution and flank him with Bleday and Sanchez, with Monte on the bench (let's be real, Monte is probably going to be the next Brinson right?, and Anderson is just awesome and can probably do anything but SS right?).

Brinson knows this offseason is the rest of his MLB career and this is it. I think they should carry him into spring training and see if he figures out a new swing, or whatever the hell he needs to do. He seems like a good kid even if he's been exceptionally bad to date, so I suspect he's going to work hard. I don't think you give up on the upside even if it's probably a single digit percent chance he works out at this stage. At least until May 2020 to see if anything translate into the first month of next season, and then maybe he sneaks through a DFA to AAA. They aren't hurting anything longterm hoping he does something. He's not blocking anyone until at least next summer.

Just saying. I think that depth chart above is it, and they just need to sign two 1B/3B types (Rendon(!) and a backup) and another right handed backup 2B/SS.
