  • One of those games where you wish you could assign the Loss to a position player and not a pitcher

    • Good news/bad news:

Anderson - 2.9 WAR. Let's buy him out with back to back 3 WAR seasons (he'll get there), lack of upside right handed bats in system, and position flexibility where nothing they will do will impact him playing somewhere. 5/$35 with a 6th year option. Let's be smart.

Rest of the Marlins Bats - Negative -1.1 WAR. YIKES. That also includes Rojas having a 1.9 WAR, Cooper 1.1 WAR, Berti 1.0 WAR, Alfaro .7 WAR, and Ramirez .5 WAR (together, 5.2 WAR in around 1500 plate appearances, so that's actually "two" pretty solid starting players amount of PA so that's good), so there is some really really - really - bad stuff past this.

      • Yeah long term it's pretty obvious Rojas and Anderson are the only guys who earned starting spots in 2020...Outside of that every starting lineup spot should be up for grabs.

        • 2 "New" names on fangraphs for us

          #29 Jerar Encarnacion FV40
          #32 Breidy Encarnacion FV 35+

Breidy is in DSL so will be up next year. We have about 8-10 arms who could be in states next year from DSL

Rojas isn't a starting player on a good major league team ... at least in my book. No heartache here if he's traded away.

              • Rojas is the bridge to Chisholm though, and that's fine.

                  • Rojas is a 1.8 WAR player over 600 PA for his career (BTW, Hechavarria .8 rounded up. Couldn't resist).

We're really happy if they get a 1.8 WAR player out of any of Brinson, Sierra, Monte, Cooper, Ramirez, Elisier, Yamamoto, Neidert, Alfaro, any reliever, and maybe even either Diaz.

Can we stop bashing Rojas? He's a good player. He's a fine low-end starting middle infielder, and a championship quality bench player. I hope they sign him for 2 years as a bridge to Jazz, and to help out Diaz. He's a perfect right hand compliment for right now as they both acclimate themselves to the bigs.

                    • I'd love it if Rojas was still around as a bench player when we're ready to compete.

I'd prefer Berti over Rojas as my utility guy. Berti may not be as sharp with the glove at SS but I prefer everything else about him over Rojas. Berti is also much cheaper.

                        • Teams typically have more than one utility guy on the bench.

ya it's almost as if for 2 full years when hech was being forced to start to the tune of a -1.4 WAR over 2013 and 2014 Rojas was in AA not accumulating similar MLB stats. Since the day rojas made his ML debut, he is at .316/.348/.664 in 1625 ab's with 102 xbh's. Hech in that same time frame for a fair comparison is .295/.360/.655 with 132 xbh's in 2075 ab's. They are almost the same hitter over that time with rojas the better player today and neither guy being particularly good.

                                - - - - - - - - - -

rojas also has 5.3 WAR total for his career, Hech since the day Rojas made his ML debut has 5.4 WAR.
