    Or maybe overused.

What's the forum view on Jorge Alfaro these days? I've been reading about the switch-hitting Tyler Heineman, who has had a very solid year at AAA. He takes his walks and doesn't strike out much.

And how about Brinson? I can't recall any hitter that stood so stiffly tall in the batter's box ever having much success.

Zero chance Alfaro gets replaced by Heineman barring injury.

        because ...

I mean just how bad will Alfaro be allowed to be? He foreshadowed all this at AAA in 2017, where has numbers were dismally like they are right now.

Because Alfaro was brought here to be the every day Catcher, he's done a pretty good job so far. If they decide to move on from Alfaro at any point, it won't be in favor of a 28-year old AAA journeyman. (do we need to explain the age thing again?) I agree Heineman deserves a shot at the majors, but a situation where a team goes to Heineman and says we believe in you so much we're going to give you every day playing time and see what you have, will not happen. That time has passed. Like I said if Heineman ever gets that opportunity it will be due to injuries.

          - - - - - - - - - -

Hell Heineman's not really the every day starter at AAA even, right now. (for whatever reason) That should give you a little insight into how they think of him.

Not fulltime because not great behind plate. He can hit but with Mattingly he is all about glove first so

Just another AAAA player that Lee loves because of stats

            - - - - - - - - - -

Hard to believe but stats and standings pretty much mean NOTHING in the minors. If u have a bunch of 20 yr olds on your Hi A team then they will probably be terrible and have crappy stats(JUPITER in first half). But if your Rookie ball team has a bunch of 23 yr olds on it they will probably be great and have amazing stats(Batavia)

Its nice to have a 10-1 1.50 ERA but if u are 3-12 4.50 ERA teams dont really care long as they like what they see in all areas

On Heineman: While his offensive ability leaves a bit to be desired, Heineman is a terrific defender behind the plate. According to his Baseball-Reference page, Tyler has thrown out an astounding 41% of attempted base thieves during his minor league career. His blocking, throwing, and especially pitch framing have graded out as above-average during his time as a professional; during the last two seasons at AAA, he’s been valued at more than +25 runs on defense according to Baseball Prospectus’ all-encompassing Fielding Runs Above Average statistic.

All I can say is that you are very kind to Alfaro. I see most of his at bats as pretty ridiculous.

Remember the most ridiculous one you pointed out? When I wrote in spring training that the Mets got JD Davis for nothing and that he would have likely been the Marlins' best hitter? Wait .... his OPS IS much better than any Marlin. Or when I pointed out that Austin Nola's game had improved since he started catching and that he would be a nice roster piece? And you said that Nola sucked and would always suck and that I was a total idiot? Well, here you go: https://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/20...-balls-offense

Well call him up then!! I didnt say Heineman sucked behind it he is an average defensive guy-Mattingly/Marlins like the backup to be all glove(Wallach/Holaday/Mathis) and whatever they get with the bat is a plus

Most of the guys Miami has in system are defensive C-Vigil/Chavez/Nieto/Hernandez/Lopez are all guys who will never be in Majors but do solid work with younger arms. Fortes/Banfield/Osborne/Skelton/Barstad/Fish have potential

I've seen a little bit of Heineman behind the plate the last couple of days, has seemed fine back there to me, although I can't think of a play in particular where he was really tested.

Cody Bellinger is having a decent season.

It’s going to take a lot of shovels to dig fish16 out because Lee just BURIED him.

Nola does suck, he always has sucked, and he always will suck, no matter how he has done in the last 100 abs which is the only representative sample for you.

Nola's transformation has occurred over the last couple seasons, over 600 ab, but who's counting? The thing that hurts is that it began at JAX and NO, when he was 27-28. I'm dam happy for him.

Could be roids, too. 15 HRs in 2500 minor league ABs coming int this year. This year 11 Hrs in about 280 ABs.
