  • granderson and cooper back to back. Cooper has been phenomenal when healthy. That deal with him and smith was a steal.

    • caleb smith looks back. he needs to learn how to pitch more efficiently though. he rarely goes more than 6 innings because of how inefficient his pitch count always is. that seems like the problem with every guy in our rotation aside from Pablo when he is healthy. our future rotation will be determined by who can take that next step and not only pitch effectively, which most of our guys generally do, but also efficiently and get us deep into ballgames.

      • elieser looked unbelievable out of the pen there. he will be our closer when romo gets dealt.

        • Unbelievably bad baserunning sequence there by Castro. Doesnt score from 3rd bas on a double play then out at the plate on a potential wild pitch.

            I agree. However....

JD Davis had a 10 pitch AB that resulted in a BB. Garrett Cooper didn’t help. Smith picked off a runner with 2 outs and Cooper threw it into CF

good point. today might not have been the best example but we both agree that the pitch count efficiency and getting deeper into games is the next step for just about our entire rotation.

hes so fucking bad. Can we make up an injury and just give him some time off and a rehab stint to make some adjustments?

Yes he should be a reliever given what they have, but he shouldn't be getting many saves. It will blow up his arbitration numbers (and he is eligible in 2021. Others like Anderson would be 2022). The arbitration process hasn't really caught up to the "all innings are equal" movement and saves will be punitively valued. We're talking millions extra per year. I also think you can use him for multiple innings but that's another thing.

I would try and not let Anderson, Elisier, and Garcia get many saves. Those three have a real shot at sticking around the bullpen for years. I'd add a healthy Steckenrider to that, and I'm really close to maybe liking Brice. His BABIP is ludicrous so if he can sustain that regression, maybe he emerges as another one.

They should do a committee for the rest of the year once Romo is gone and not let anyone get more than 5 saves. It'll save a bunch of money. Hell, maybe Chen gets his shit together and let him get them to save money on the kids. Then you do what Texas did, even if it isn't working out at the moment for them, and buy out a reliever (Leclerc) and try and filter all the saves to controlled prices that won't escalate from antiquated statistics in arbitration hearings.

This team needs a cheap bullpen. It'll happen with what they got, I'm just saying don't invite the arbitration money.

Let's not over rate all of our prospects like fans of every team. These guys are good, but Garret had a mid-rotation, and Rogers bullpen, projection before the year.

Ticking them up to # 2 starter potential is like saying they are top 50 prospects in baseball, and I have a hard time believing that at this moment.
THIS!!! Do NOT look at Jupiter for ANY stats-pitchers look much better and hitter look much worse. Its like the CAL bats look amazing and arms all are 4.50+ ERA

He is likely LR/2 inning guy they have RJ Alvarez,Kyle Keller,Dylan Lee,Guzman,Chad Smith,Touchdown Tommy(maybe) who are likely CL options in system

1 thing the Marlins have is RP options they have alot of average(who could become better) guys in the system

                    Probably 2 years away(2021) but other interesting arms are CJ Carter(Ziegler like),Alex Vesia,Vincenzo Aiello,Tyler Stevens,Hock,Tyler Jones,Guenther,Holloway,Tyler Kolek(JKJKJKJK)

                    2021 Pen
                    Elieser
                    Jarlin
                    Quijada/other LHR
                    Steck
                    Guzman
                    Holloway
                    Anderson
                    ?

Remember they need to have 13 P on roster starting next year. Nice mix of older(Steck/Anderson will be 30) and power arms(Guzman/Holloway 100+ in pen). Key about pen is different looks-u dont want 6 guys throwing 100+ FB and nothing else. They might not be the "best" but guys like Ziegler,Brice,CJ Carter, even Tazawa are valuable because its a different look for bats

that's amazing. i was watching the game in the background and didnt even know he tried to pick him off 6 times. He had to have just been trying to be annoying and tire Caleb out and then lost focus on granderson right?

                        • Definitely seemed like Vargas was for some reason trying to be a dick to the opposing pitcher, and it backfired.

                          • andrew cashner sure does get a lot of chances for a pitcher who has been thoroughly mediocre his entire career. O's dealt him to the sox. Having a decent year this year but man so many players make so much money for guys who have never been particularly good.

                            • Gallen is kind of a frustrating pitcher to watch. Lots of pitches, very deliberate. The thing that's holding him back right now, is when he misses, he misses by so much, the hitter doesn't even think about swing. So we get these long ABs.

Theres always a learning curve when guys come to the majors. I like when pitchers are given a taste of big league action, and then when they struggle they go back down and work on the things that need improvement against lesser competition. He seems like the perfect candidate to go back down for 3-4 starts and try to work on ways to finish hitters off and pitching more efficiently
