  • New mlb pipeline top 100 list just out. Monte is in the top 100 again. VVM falls out. Somehow doesnt have any of our other pitchers in there because mlb pipeline is consistently down on the marlins prospects. Not sure who id have in there, but a case can be made for all of Diaz, Gallen, Cabrera, Garrett, and maybe devers at the way end based on potential and age relative to competition.

And bleday too obviously but im not sure if they put recent draftees in this list and, regardless, he hasnt signed yet so he's technically not a member of the organization.

      Sixto?

Diaz should be 80-100 for sure. I can see no one else being in there. Including Monte.

Although I agree with you Gallen, Cabrera, Garrett, and Devers, as well as VVM and Neidert, are all probably right on the cusp in the 100-150 range.

Ya sorry, Sixto is in there too. I meant the only one in there aside from him was Monte. Diaz should 100% be in there now, and i think there are really good arguments for Cabrera, Gallen, and Garrett. Especially Gallen.

        • It's interesting how Diaz doesn't get any love from the prospect rankings. It's kind of similar to Realmuto, and maybe even more so Brian Anderson.

Fangraphs has always liked him to be fair. FG was onto Anderson before last year's break out too. Of course they did have Sierra higher I believe...

                • Just want to point out Richards this year (prior to today where he vaporized first 13 hitters in 3+ innings at the time of posting, so this split is getting better):

                  1st time through - .796 OPS
                  2nd time through - .469 OPS
                  3rd time through - 1.015 OPS

                  Last year

                  1st time through - .773 OPS
                  2nd time through - .670 OPS
                  3rd time through - .898 OPS

Can someone get this guy an opener to get the first 3-5 outs of the game, and then let the man pitch to the next 18-21 hitters and only have to face the 1-5 hitters twice?

Screaming opener. I know the relievers suck, but this is how you use Richards. This is an over 200 IP split above which is very significant.

                  - - - - - - - - - -

And he struck out batter 14. And he's thrown 71 pitchers (36 strikes. Gross.) in 4 innings.

Richards is good once you ditch third time through, which likely explains the FIPS. He needs to be used in 15-20 batter spurts after getting through the cleanup hitter.

It's time to be smart Marlins.

                    • cooper has some sort of triceps soreness from what i read on twitter earlier.

Also, Richards is now at a 3.46 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and just under a K per inning. At what point do we start to just consider him a legit rotation piece and focus on his actual numbers rather than the FIP.

To me he could be a good back of the rotation guy, but id love to see how his changeup can play out of the bullpen for 2 innings at a time

                      • That one is on Don. Should have taken him out.

Good start still for Richards but it’s really clear - no third thing through. Get an opener for him.

Well FIP is an actual number that calculates itself based off performance. His career line is a solid 4th SP for sure. FIP says he's a little worse than that, but that's OK. That's still a guy you can give a bunch of starts too. Especially if you are smart and broken record, those third time through the numbers are terrible.

He should be used 20-25 times for 4+ innings and another 10-15 times for 1-2 innings as needed

Hell ya. Why look at a representative sample size showing them to be nearly identical hitters
