Asking to run out of the box isnt asking a lot. Especially on a bad hitting team who needs all the help they can get to manufacture runs.

man peter o'brien blew what will likely be his last chance to be an MLB regular. They were trotting him around all offseason as if he was a piece they were very intrigued with moving forward and he just shit the bed from pretty much the first day of spring training.

not sure if this was mentioned here yet, but seems like Lopez got the best possible news under the circumstances with a mild shoulder strain. Apparently it happened in his bullpen monday, then he came in and told the team on tuesday. I think they might just be being careful obviously. If im the team i see when he's ready to go and then keep him out another week or 2 on top of that just to be safe. No need to push it when we arent contending and have a bunch of other arms we can get a look at anyways.

very excited to see what gallen can do tonight. Especially interested in his velocity. He supposedly went from low 90s to mid 90s this year which might have explained the ridiculous season he's having.

BTW, Dan Straily was just DFA'd by baltimore after putting up truly one of the worst seasons ive ever seen. 9.30 FIP and 6.99 XFIP. Really glad we gave up castillo for him so that we could add that missing piece to our clearly thoroughly mediocre team 2 years ago.

Ya when they DFA O'Brien instead of Pablo it was good news. Just dont rush him back-give him 2/3 weeks OFF few rehab and August back.

Richards Updated 2019 1-2-3 times through the order stats:
1st time through - .762 OPS (2018 - .773)
2nd time through - .465 OPS (2018 - .670)
3rd time through - 1.012 OPS (2018 -.898)
This is a 210 IP split at this point.
How do we start an opener campaign for Richards and never let him pitch to the heart of an order a third time?

Fangraphs is awesome
2019
1st time through - 5.11 FIP
2nd time through - 2.61 FIP
3rd time through - 6.66 FIP
=4.34 overall
Career
1st time through - 4.49 FIP
2nd time through - 2.91 FIP
3rd time through - 6.29 FIP
=4.17 overall

This is in response to Fish16s is he a longterm piece.
Yes, with an opener as the team's 5th SP or highest volume multi-inning reliever not seeing lineups a third time.
I don't have an exact number, but Richards has thrown basically equal innings 1st/2nd time through the order, so if we split the baby he is a 3.8 FIP pitcher first 18 batters he faces in every game for his career. That's rounded up. And that's great.
