Due in large part to the marlins trotting hech out there everyday in 2013 for 600 ab's where he had a -1.3 WAR, while Rojas was OPS'ing .610 in AA for that entire year. They are essentially the same player with hech being a better SS and rojas still being a good SS but offering more positional versatility. Both are fine as defensive replacements, neither should be playing every day.

    • I agree neither should be playing every day. I also think Rojas has consistently been a better major leaguer than Hech.

      • Side note- these injuries and the callups of Gallen, Yamamoto, and Elieser will result in a bunch of our minor league arms getting moved up. Dugger is probably going to go to AAA soon, and id imagine a few of the Jupiter arms get moved up to Jax shortly.

That's fair, but I also think that's because at the same age Hech was foolishly being asked to play everyday in the majors on just a god awful 2013 marlins team as well as spot duty the year before on the Jays, while Rojas didnt come until 2014 and was never asked to play everyday until last year.

I'd also take into consideration that Hech was consistently getting every day ABs for what 5 years, and in that time Rojas was a bench player and getting spotty PT at best. Hence why they're the same age and Hech has double the ABs.

          • If pablo's injury is long term which, with a shoulder injury, it likely is regardless or it should be because we are being careful, i'd imagine Gallen is the one who sticks full time in the rotation, then we either go with a 6 man rotation with Smith when he comes back and Yamamoto, or we just stay with the 5 man rotation and send Yamamoto to the minors again but with an upgrade to AAA instead of AA like he was to begin the year.

They don't. They tremendously gutted their staff a year ago.

              Nope, hopefully it's nothing longterm.

This is also why you trade no pitching (besides Urena or Conley) until next deadline at the earliest

Nearly 875 of Hech's ab's came before Rojas ever made it to the majors, and they are the same age. So that amounts to more than half of the discrepancy in their ab totals. And i'd argue that Hech being played foolishly every day probably helped to bring his numbers down as opposed to Rojas who was only being played against RHP his first 2 years if you look at the numbers. For some reason Rojas was significantly better against RHP than lefties his first 2 years. If Hech was platooned against lefties, against which he has a career .700 OPS compared to .618 against righties, his numbers would probably be better.

I'm saying ESPN has the resources to devote to making their own WAR stat, not that they have the staff currently.

lets just all agree that it is great that we dont have to watch hech's useless bat in our lineup every day anymore. He lasted about 3 years too long here and some how never faced any competition.

                • Hech is a perfect bench MI to start against all lefties and play defense late. But who cares and why is this happening?

just a comparison to rojas. Doesnt really matter though. I'd imagine we deal rojas at the deadline for IFA cash

Miami #Marlins are closing in on a deal with 5th round pick (141) HS Pitcher Evan Fitterer. This was one of the big ones for Miami. Consensus top 100 player. Should be announced soon.
                    Pretty big signing

definitely. Excited to get this new crop of minor leaguers in there and start purging the system of the guys from the previous regime who were only signed/drafted to be able to fill out minor league rosters rather than for the intention to create an all-around strong system actually capable of surviving injuries.

                        • Our long national nightmare is over. After 2.5 months longer than he deserved to be on the team, Herrera was designated for assignment to make room for Gallen on the 40 man.

I mean. We did just put Yadiel Rivera on the roster the other day...

has there been any update on wtf is going on with Wallach, O'Brien, and Ferrell? Seems like those 3 have been on the DL forever and with no recent updates.

We acquired Cesar Puello from the angels for cash considerations. Great move. Easy upgrade over Herrera. Nothing special obviously, but he wasnt DFA'd for being bad, he was DFA'd ecause of a number crunch with Justin Upton coming off the DL. Looks like he's got a ton of speed, hits for average, and has performed everywhere he's been. He's older, but looks like another possible Harold ramirez type addition where we get talent for cheap based on another team lacking room on their roster.

Also, Lopez is on the DL with a "shoulder strain" and we recalled Quijada. Wonder if shoulder strain is the actual diagnosis or if that's just what they are calling it for right now before we get more word on the extent of the injury.
