I would jump all over Bud Norris but he wants to be named "closer" which is why we signed Romo instead. The more trade chips the better

    • I mean, we essentially got the Mesas in exchange for Bearclaw, sooooo

      • Who the fuck decided to do weekday games at 6 instead of 7?

        • funny part about the game being at 6 instead of 7: i drive home from work around 5-5:30 on the 836 (or 826, whichever is next to the stadium, i get them confused) and traffic was much lighter going back east than it normally was. So im guessing todays crowd wont likely be a sellout.

Has a team ever had an "ace" who is significantly worse than literally everyone else in the rotation like this?

I have a remarkable ability to jinx the fuck out of this team

Our 7-8-9 hitters tonight are Wallach, Herrera, and Richards. Horrendous. Given the surplus of guys we have that can play 3b/ss/1b in Walker, Rojas, Riddle, Prado, and Anderson, I really hope we start moving Anderson to the OF temporarily just to have the lineup improvement of whichever one of those guys is in the lineup over Herrera. Not that this year matters or any of those guys are any part of the future, but those guys all theoretically should be better hitters than herrera. Theres no need to be forcing Herrera into the lineup.

          Of course Degrom also homers.

this looks like a getaway day thing only. there's not another 6 pm weekday game through the end of may, which is as far as i bothered looking.

they probably figured it was better to get 7k fans at 6 pm than 2k at noon.

                • does mlb gameday still give "nasty" scores to pitches? i wouldn't imagine this richards slider would ever even register double digits on the 0-100 scale. what a spinning piece of shit.

Ya, they said on the broadcast it was because the mets have their home opener tomorrow afternoon. Glad it's not a thing

                    • Impressed with Richards start tonight. Especially after that 3rd inning he had.

Still think he is a solid #4 type guy but id deal him at the deadline at the point where he is hopefully back to what he has been the last few years and has a little value with two more years of team control left after this year. Could probably get a decent bat back for him i would think.
I agree. Would be the prudent thing to do

                            • Starlin Castro is far too good for this team. He's normally a mid 700 OPS guy and he's still too good.

                              • Brinson has looked better to me in recent days than my initial impression for the year but the lack of walks is still concerning. He will never be a high BB% guy but its gotta improve. He has however squared the ball up significantly more this year with a 63.2 hard hit ball percentage and should have had at least 1 and maybe 2 hr's in a different ballpark. Small sample size but would be really encouraging if he can keep that up.

Who are some of the comps if he doesnt improve the walk rate but takes a significant step up in power? Andujar had a similar walk rate and had legit power but he didn't K quite as much.

We actually do have a number of guys who should be at least mid .700 OPS guys but collectively its just a weak group and not very deep. I think you could make an argument for all of the following to put up that kind of year: Brinson, Anderson, Starlin, Granderson, Alfaro, Walker, and maybe a platoon of Rojas/Riddle could do it collectively. the problem is we insist on playing Herrera in a legit platoon instead of moving Anderson to the OF or just spending money in the offseason on another cheap OF
