Sign Abreu for 1-2 years? Sure. Who cares.

Catcher: Francisco Cervelli, Yasmani Grandal (mutual option)
First base: Jose Abreu, Matt Carpenter (club option)
Second base: Scooter Gennett, Jonathan Schoop
Third base: Anthony Rendon, Josh Donaldson
Shortstop: Didi Gregorius
Outfield: Marcell Ozuna, Nicholas Castellanos, Yasiel Puig, Adam Eaton
DH: Khris Davis, J.D. Martinez (opt-out)
Starting pitchers: Gerrit Cole, Madison Bumgarner, Zack Wheeler, Stephen Strasburg (opt-out), Rick Porcello, Jake Odorizzi, Alex Wood
Relievers: Dellin Betances, Arodys Vizcaino, Sean Doolittle (club option), Kenley Jansen (opt-out)

Catcher: J.T. Realmuto, Mike Zunino, Yadier Molina
First base: Matt Carpenter, C.J. Cron, Yuli Gurriel, Ryan Zimmerman
Second base: Starlin Castro, Jason Kipnis, Cesar Hernandez, Marwin Gonzalez, DJ LeMahieu, Daniel Murphy (mutual option)
Third base: Justin Turner, Zack Cozart, Jake Lamb
Shortstop: Andrelton Simmons, Jonathan Villar, Marcus Semien, Jurickson Profar
Outfield: Mookie Betts, George Springer, Yoenis Cespedes, David Peralta, Michael Brantley, Joc Pederson, Jackie Bradley Jr., Jay Bruce, Giancarlo Stanton (opt-out)
DH: Edwin Encarnacion
Starting pitchers: Trevor Bauer, Robbie Ray, James Paxton, Masahiro Tanaka, Jake Arrieta, Marcus Stroman, Jose Quintana
Relievers: Blake Treinen, Jeremy Jeffress, Alex Colome, Brandon Morrow, Andrew Miller (club option)

Rendon is the premier bat free agent and isn't coming.
Cole is the premier SP free agent and isn't coming.
Mookie is the next premier bat free agent and isn't coming.
The 2021 SP make sense if they are healthy and have been performing as they should. You can see one of them being signed to a multi year deal even if they have SP depth.

So we have Didi, and the Marlins have Jack and Shit organizationally at SS. A 2019 1st round pick in high school isn't ready until 2023 best case scenario. Projecting a high school Witt to the MLB squad in 1+ year is a bit much unless he is a prodigy.

Literally looking at Didi being the best FA for the Marlins (4+ WAR last 2 years) at a position of need. Brinson may stink today, but Brinson, Monte, VVM, and the viability of 1 year corner OF types don't create a sudden urge to sign Ozuna (2.7 WAR last year, projected under 3 this year), Castellanos (projected 2 WAR), pray Puig has matured and isn't just playing this year for the contract, etc.

They should sign Didi in 2020 at this point, aim for a SP in 2021, pray they have SP depth to trade and pull a reverse-Yelich style trade for another bat, fill in all the gaps moving Castro, Steckenrider, Conley, Walker, Rojas, Urena, etc., and if needed, offer 1-2 year deals to 1B/LF types.

Then, maybe you have a chance in 2021.
It isnt about what Ozuna is looking for, its about what he is realistically expected to get given his age and the free agent market the last few years. Teams just arent giving out 6-7 year deals to guys like Ozuna anymore. Id give him a 3-4 year deal with higher AAV.

I just dont trust Didi. He will be coming off TJ and short year this year and did a lot of his damage in yankee stadium.

Rendon would be interesting if we had any chance.

and he had to wait till like Mid march didnt he? I dont see a team giving Ozuna any more than 5 years, and thats only if he has a monster year this year. I would just love the value play of dealing him for Alcantara and Gallen, we suck for 2 years anyways, then get him back a few years later when ideally we are ramping up again.

I was saying Martinez opts out this year, and that's what I'd offer him to come here. Age is an issue, but he's legitimately one of the best bats of the last couple of years. We have him for 21-23 when we should start to be able to compete if things go our way.

• Smart thing is go with

#4 5 tool SS either Witt or Abrams
#35 College SS who can move fast

This draft has about 6-8 College SS who can stick at the spot-question is who will be there at #35?

The system can use IF badly

As for SP they will like spend on 1 of those guys whether we need them or not. 40-60 million to spend

Sources: LHP Sandro Bargallo (18) signed a deal with the Miami marlins. He has a fastball in 92-90 mph range, in addition to a curveball above the average. The left-hander received $200.000 K in bonus sign.

I think the NL will need a DH, but he is so good he might be worth risking his age 34-35 seasons on with a 4 year mega deal. But if you are going to devote that kind of money, you're already in Rendon land who should be around 6/$150. I'd go with him and just move Anderson.

I'd be down with that too.

• Urena is by far my least favorite pitcher in the rotation. Still think he is a solid #4 type guy but id deal him at the deadline at the point where he is hopefully back to what he has been the last few years and has a little value with two more years of team control left after this year. Could probably get a decent bat back for him i would think.

The Marlins will probably release Ureña before they trade him. It’s the Marlins Way.

"Marlins Way" is actually hold onto guys past highest value then waive/DFA them for nothing

LY could have traded Bearclaw,Steck and Conley for solid prospects yet they asked for "Top" guys. Missed out and gave away Bearclaw then this year even tho have 20 RP prospects in AAA/AA will probably hold on Steck and Conley

• FWIW, the Blue Jays released Bud Norris. They wanted him to stick in extended ST to build arm strength and he didn't want to.

That’s Lorias fault though.

• Besides opening day we were in till the last inning in all games. To be honest, if we were 3-3/4-2 it would've been fairer than 2-4.

Brinson is looking better at the plate, however, he's a terrible baserunner. Yesterday he had two opportunities to steal a bag on the 9th inning with two balls on the ground and he didn't run. He's got to be more agressive.
