I mean, the Marlins didn't want to eat the $3 million left on Ziegler contract. I don't think they would on $20-25.

On a different note, we're here discussing this and that, but in the end only the FO will know the reasons they didn't trade at least 2-3 more guys. Maybe the FO knows somethiing about the O's and Victor Victor etc. We're all getting mad and speculating about things we will never know.

I will still watch them and hope things/prospects work out for the future.

This is is the biggest question mark still with this FO. They've shed an awful lot of payroll since they've taken over. Time to bite the bullet on a couple of deals to continue to add talent to the minor league system.

#Dodgers backed out due to medicals, sources say. Deal was believed to be with #Marlins.

IFA should be interesting from now till July 1 2019

Orioles,Marlins,Cubs only teams who have more than 3 million. Cubs are waiting for Mexican players to be cleared and Orioles for Mesa Brothers to clear

Marlins will be sitting there with 4.5 Million to do something with!!

It will be interesting if #Marlins give Isaac Galloway a callup. Right handed hiitter who can play center. that wouldn’t surprise me @cakesbaseball

Screw Austin Dean lets callup Issac Loria because he can play CF
I will say this, it will be a very nice gesture for the organization to reward Galloway with a September callup. That is a classy gesture for an 11 year minor league veteran who has presumably done everything asked for that time period. Players will notice.

Castro for sure. They should eat his 2018 salary completely at a minimum.

Prado and Chen are unmoveable. I can't blame them for those and hope for a miracle.

I don't think Prado's unmovable, especially if he has a good month. (btw .817 OPS since returning from injury) Another .800+ OPS month, we kick in $12 million. I don't think it's that far-fetched.

Yep. Now the real number for Galloway - can he hack it 43 days to get the minimum pension ($34/k year for life).

                        Good luck buddy.

                        • Honestly we still don't know much about this new ownership group. Money is still a major factor for them even after the dumping of several large contracts over the winter. For everyone who assumed that they would be making bold moves in International free agency will still have to wait to see if they ever will. So far they are playing the same games with IFA as the last ownership group. They are linked to big time Cuban players who would seem to be a good fit for the team and a big need only to just miss out. They didn't show any urgency acquiring extra IFA cash so either Victor Victor has indeed already agreed to go to the Orioles or they really didn't have as much interest as reported or just wanted their names to be linked to them just to say hey we tried. The draft was handled poorly. I know they spent almost as much as they could but it wasn't done smartly. They passed on better prospects (who did sign for less) only to draft the player they had planned to all along without negotiating a lesser deal. I am not saying he should have taken a huge cut but they should have been able to save some money there for other picks. The way things were looking was that if they had done their homework and did some talking to prospects before the draft they should have been able to add one more player who dropped due to price. Hopefully one or two are able pan out but the success of this draft hinges on how the first few pick do because the rest of the draft doesn't look to be very high on future potential. I know they added depth in the trades but this team is majorly lacking in impact minor league players. I don't see top of the rotation type pitchers or impact bats that will be able to move up to the majors and be the big pieces to build around any time soon. Diaz may be serviceable but he still isn't close to being ready. Harrison right now is not looking like much of a prospect. I still have a hard time trusting the Jeter group. I know this has a lot to do with past owners but they haven't shown me much to be excited about yet. I know changes needed to happen however I still don't see the direction of this team. We still don't know what they will do salary wise with this team. As of today I just can't see this team being truly competitive again in just a couple of years it looks much further out. They seemed to miss the boat today by not trading any controllable players. I realize that they shouldn't have traded them just to trade them but they should have been able to trade at least one of them to get a good return or make some moves to get IFA cash if they truly wanted Mesa. Sorry for the rant I am just a little frustrated with the Jeter group. I was hoping like all other fans that things would look much better and brighter once they were finally rid of that POS Loria but so far I am majorly disappointed.

                          • My biggest frustration with this trade deadline is just a seeming lack of going for a full on rebuild. IF we werent going to trade easy to find relievers and think we can compete sooner rather than later, why did we trade yelich? I still think we got 3 future at least above average lineup pieces plus an interesting pitcher for him, but i just cant stand the half assing of a rebuild. What the orioles did the last few weeks is exactly what we needed to do.

But now that its over, can we please stop ruining the development of Sierra and just call dean up, see what hecan bring over the rest of the year, and let Sierra continue to develop his hit tool until at least next years trade deadline as he is still just 22 years old until next April and doesnt have the type of hitting ability that can survive at the major league level despite being inexperienced simply because he lacks power. He is the type of player who needs to fully master each level before you move him on to the next level.

Over the course of the rest of the year we need to just focus on developing young players and seeing what we have out of guys like Dean, Anderson, Alcantara, P Lopez, Richards, maybe Neidert and Diaz in September for a brief stint.

I really like Tommy Eveld as a nice get for Ziegler, even if i preferred us to go after bats at the deadline. This is the type of move a smart team will make, turning a soon to be free agent reliever into a young 25 year old reliever who can become a 6 year controlled bullpen arm. Also, even though his career nmbers are already phenomenal, they are even inflated by his first 22 innings in the Cal League last year. His numbers/improvement in that league in the beginning of this year is also very interesting. I can explain how terrible of a league that is for pitchers and he dominated, albeit at a much higher age than his competition.

Is there a website that compares runs scored between minor leagues? Just looking at player numbers between the high-A leagues, it doesn't seem like there's much difference between the Carolina League and the California League. Florida State League seems like more of an outlier by being extremely pitcher-friendly which we're all aware of.
