  • Ya, give it till the deadline and criticize after. It does us no good to come out and say we’re shopping everyone, and teams likely already know we’re open to dealing everyone. It’s a valid criticism if we only trade Ziegler, but until the deadline just wait for 5 days and see what happens

    • At the same time Hill does mention that they want to convince JT to sign long term. Could holding on to some controllable guys that they could potentially move help their cause of showing him how things will be different going forward? Likely that’s not the case but could be a show of good faith...

Jason Stark just tweeted that the Marlins were one of 7 teams scouting the Brewers AA team last night with Milwaukee looking for a 2B. So I don’t buy them saying they are only motivated to move Ziegler.
Agreed. Prices go down on Monday.

Not sure anyone really matters for this unfortunately.

They spent overslot in 2018 draft right? Not by a lot, but objectively over by some amount? Combine that with actually spending the IFA money, giving Anderson a nice "thank you" bump in salary and not renew at the minimum like Loria always did, etc. I like to think the players notice those things.

        • Straily has been great in his last 5 starts and tonight. Great to see right before the deadline. Interested to see if they deal him by tuesday.

          • our pen for the rest of the year after the deadline if we trade zieger, bear claw, and conley will be truly horrible.

            • We just can't seem to solve Washington. Every time we play them, I find myself thinking, "how is this team only at .500?"

                Chi-Uelmen,Clifton or Hatch/low level prospect
                Cle-Hentges,Oviedo,or Elijah Morgan/low level prospect

They are motivated to move alot of guys. The problem is our asking price is high on alot of them and teams are paying these high prices so they havent dropped them yet. Brewers are looking at DD and Castro,Straily,Ziegler which is why we were scouting them

Milwaukee seems more into Minnesota/Cincy guys however

By Sunday we should start hearing more about us-soon as all these "rentals" start going off the board. NYY talked to us about Straily,Conley but wanted to use Drury as bait while we wanted prospects

Steckenrider, Wittgren, Guerrero, E. Hernandez, and Meyer/Rucinski/Graves/Gallen/Merandy
                  J. Garcia, Quijada, Peters/O'Grady (is he coming back?)

I'm really not embarrassed by that. I mean it's going to be below average for sure without those 3, but there is a lot of potential there at the same time. Especially if they keep Conley and/or maybe get another arm or two as part of the moves that are play now.

I'm honestly hopeful the primary 7 relievers next year are Steckenrider, Conley, Wittgren, Guerrero, Garcia, Quijada, and Gallen. The 8th is a huge Merandy/Meyer/Rucinski/Brigham/O'Grady/etc. toss up and let them fight it out and call them up/down all year for injuries.

Guerra,Jumbo Diaz,Kinley could be in pen this year if needed

No Clue why Graves is still around. Looks terrible and have better guys in minors not on 40 man

                    LHR Next year-Garcia,Quijada,Jeff Kinley,Lee,Squier,Del Pozo,O'Grady

Wouldn't be surprised to see us take P in Rule 5 or look to NYY for arms who have to be protected too

                    • Garcia needs to improve. Dylan Lee and Quijada seem capable of pitching for the Marlins now ... Brigham too.

For sure, but Garcia is 25. It's time to figure it out or not and they have the space for him as one of the 2-3 pen lefties for ROS.

Quijada seems next up and should be exciting. I would really love it if he, Conley, and Garcia became a strong lefty crew for years.

I suspect Brigham is up shortly also, especially if it is a mass RP exodus at the deadline. He's earned a shot.

Lee just got to AA, maybe next summer but it's definitely encouraging.

                        • True stat: Austin Dean 45 strikeouts in AA/AAA 2018 and Monte Harrison 162! Monte leads the Southern League by a margin of 33!

                          • Austin Dean's had a great year, but I just don't see enough power from him to be able to hold down an every day corner outfield position at the big league level.

Maybe not. However, his 2018 OPS matches Anderson's from his breakout campaign last year.

True, only thing I'd say is Anderson had even greater success when he got to AAA from AA, and Dean's eye-popping stats came at AA and has come back down to earth a little, while still being good, at AAA. Plus Dean is more reliant on that high batting average keeping that slugging percentage up, while Anderson hit 22 HRs last year. It's not the worst comparison, though, because Anderson was kind of a disappointing prospect before last year.
