  • I don't understand the obsession with having the roof open all the time whether it's supposed to rain or not.

Hard to believe that a CATCHER (high injury probability) THREE YEARS AWAY from free agency has zero interest in a contract extension. I’m going to go with nothing has been offered.
They offered him 1 in December he said NO so they tried to trade him. Couldn't get what they wanted for him and then he made the trade request.

They wanna sign him to an extension but his agent(behind scenes/no one has reported) keeps telling them no interest so havent really done anything.

FO will likely try again before Winter Meetings and if he says NO then deal him at the Meetings. Feeling is they will keep him this season unless Robles/Soto/Tucker or that type of guy is offered. Value only is going up AND more options after season

FO thinks he is gone which is why u saw them take 4 C in the draft and are interested in Mejia/Keibert Ruiz/Max Stassi in trades

Peters probably up for "just in case" today.

Should be interesting to see who gets the DFA. Smith goes to 60 Day but need 1 spot. I dont mind if they keep Rivera in AAA as UT depth

They haven’t offered him anything. It’s pretty clear.

                • Good game...nice series win. Urena looked good in his return and Riddle had a great game. With Prado about to return, I hope that doesn't mean less playing time for Riddle. They need to keep his bat in the lineup every day.

I don't see the issue in playing him. He isn't blocking anyone, and if he can turn himself into an asset, great. The depth chart is actually pretty easy.

It's not like they need to give PA to anyone for development purposes. The only guys in the minors I think "need" some MLB time this year are Dean, Ortega, and Telis. No world beaters there of course, just testing them out to see if they can win bench spots next year.

                      • I have no issue playing Prado, I just want to give Riddle the chance to see how he does as the everyday SS. So I would let Prado play 3 or 4 times a week at 3rd and have Rojas play the rest of the time there and to give Castro and Riddle a rest. I think there is some upside with Riddle and now is the time to let him be the starter.

                        • I didn't get the Riddle love last year but he's looked very good.

I guess I don't mean very good. I mean, he looks like he can play Major League baseball. As a starter, I don't love him, but if he's the worst bat in your lineup in 2020 I'm okay with that.

I think he’s a starting caliber SS at least until Devers or whoever the next SS of the future is ready. I mean he won’t be an All Star, but he’s very good defensively and has power. We started Hech for years and I prefer Riddle’s bat. I think he’s like the SS version of Bour. Late blooming, non-prospect that can turn into a starting caliber player on a lot of teams.

It's a small sample size, and the last game jumped his slash 75 OPS points which tells you something, but he is all of a sudden hitting .274/.310/.484 (.796), 4 HR, 5/23 BB/K vs RHP this year, which is very playable with his plus defense. We'll ignore the lefties and focus on the positives.

He's probably overachieving with some power with his hard hit/ld/HR% rates, but that's still OK all things considered. I don't think any of us would care if you slash 30-50 points off that slugging if his OBP ticks up a little. His BB rate in AA/AAA was higher then what he's showing now so maybe he does have an idea of what he's doing. .306 BABIP this season so he's not lucky with the average.

They should definitely play him against all/most right handers next few weeks and see what happens. He's earned it. If he is a .750 OPS bat against RHP regardless of the OBP/SLUG distribution and plays above average defense, he's absolutely a strong side of a platoon starter which would be great for the organization.

He isn't anything great and would probably be better as a UT guy but I don't have a problem with him at SS until they get someone

Won't be great but good glove and has some hit tools
