Barraclough can go though. He’s a reliever and he’ll probably never be this good again anyway. Sell high.
Or if we think he is a tick below Buster/Mauer in their prime levels, go to 5/$90. Hard to say. He's amazing right now, but is this the peak year and last two years the average, or is this the new normal.

They don't really have any other buyout candidate.
Brinson is who the fuck knows, and he'll be over 30 by the FA years. He may just be a year to year guy even if he works out. Anderson looks good, but he isn't breaking the bank as a superstar. Not really a cost savings situation so why do it. Urena same thing. He might be good to buyout and get a cheap FA year, but is he good enough? Probably not. You're not committing longterm to Dietrich, Rojas, or Bour. All the other SP are too young.
Best bet right now might really be Steckenrider or Conley, which would cost like 5/$15 if that and then you're saving money when they get saves. But, RP volatility, not a long track record of success for either, and they are cheap regardless so who cares?
I can't fault them for being a forever joke right now. When the opportunity arises for the buyout, we'll see what they do.

They aren't looking to trade Bearclaw,Steck or Conley however teams are calling and offering some overpay deals which has us listening. Don't expect Steck to be deal but Bearclaw very possible especially if Clev/LA are will to talk Mejia/Keibert Ruiz for Bearclaw. Conley also has got great value and we have 2 or 3 guys in AAA who they really like so just say Boston would do Chatham and an arm or 2 we like I could see us dealing him
Again they are NOT looking to deal any of them but offers they have gotten have got us listening
Guys they WANT to deal are DD/Ziegler/Straily/Holaday/Bour/Maybin. Guys they will listening on but are not in a rush are Bearclaw/Steck/Conley/JT/Urena

And as said, at some point you have to keep your guys and Brinson, Anderson, Alcantara, Steckenrider, and Conley seem like 5 pieces on a good team in 2 years.
I think they keep Steck and Conley but who knows maybe Cleveland gets Bearclaw and Houston/LA or someone feels like they have to overpay to get Steck. If u can get the same level of prospects for both Bearclaw and Steck u deal them both.
I wouldn't trade any of them just to trade them. All are controllable and value will only go up.(Long as Steck doesn't pitch against Atlanta and Conley stays in pen)Last edited by tjfla; 07-03-2018, 12:10 PM.

But this goes back to - at some point you have to keep the guys. Conley is controlled for 4 seasons, and if he is really this good, even with all the pitchers coming up in the system, he's probably a top 8 organizational RP moving forward and you should keep that. Same with Steck who they have for 5 years. You're still building something even if there are 8 other guys on the team you can move.
I agree in theory, if you're getting a top 100 guy for them (who isn't a RP prospect) you do it, but that's hard to anticipate getting for a pretty good reliever who isn't Chapman/Miller/etc.
I personally think Realmuto is the only guy they have whose going to get 1-2 top 100 guys, and maybe Barraclough (or Steckenrider) get something like Niedert who is a 101-150 kind of guy just because they have so many years of control.

They would like to get that 1 Top Prospect(Mejia/Ruiz/Alvarez) but would also take a deal like they got for Phelps LY. Better prospects but 3/4 guys in a deal

I think the trade deadline should happen as follows:
Must deal: Dietrich, Ziegler, Barraclough, Maybin(just get whatever and bring dean up).
Shouldn't deal- JT if he has any inclination towards staying. They really need to figure him out soon though and decide either way because the worst thing possible to do would be to wait and then trade him when his value is at his lowest. Bour because I dont think he has much value on the market and I think you just let him play out his deal given our organizational depth right now at 1b, his low market value, and his impact in the lineup. Steckenrider because while i think relievers are very easy to find and therefore should be dealt in a situation like ours, he is still making the minimum and he hasnt had the type of impact YET that I think he can have and will therefore make him more valuable on the trade market in the future.
Depends on if we get blown away- Straily (value isnt as high anymore due to his struggles), Urena, Conley (always had the profile of a potential dominant reliever. Don't deal him too early. see what you have in him because he isnt going to get you a huge return now and has the potential to be a dominant type lefty reliever in the mold of Miller or Hand).
