Dean homered today after not appearing in the last couple games.

      • Rough series against Washington.

Hernandez continues to give them good starts. Nothing spectacular, but for a rule 5 guy, he's looks like he belongs. I like that he throws strikes and goes right after hitters. I could see him being a solid 4 or 5 starter for a long time in the Majors.

Speaking of Rule 5 picks, Brett Graves left his rehab start with an apparent injury. Not good news for him, but it will allow the Marlins to hold on to him without adding him to the ML roster.

        • Caleb Smith goes for Miami today. He has allowed a .197 BAA thus far, 9th best in the majors among qualifying starters and the brightest light for the Marlins.

I conceivably see Hernandez as a better version of Despaigne in the pen, but hope you are right.

          • Ya Hernandez is likely a LR/Spot Starter. Worst case he is AAA SP Depth. Wouldn't be surprised to see him in AAA next year

Amazing how we went from no SP depth to wayyyy to many guys. No #1 guy but alot of depth and with low payroll in 2020 we can sign a #1

We have a few number 2 potential guys (Alcantara, Lopez, Guzman, Garrett, Rogers) that are possibleand we will have a ton of bullpen arms out of the starters that don’t pan out soon enough. Bullpen arms are the last of our problems right now.

                • Jupiter and Jacksonville relievers with WHIP of 1.00 or less: Lefties Quijada and Dylan Lee; righties Jeff Kinley, Chad Smith, Zech Lemond, and Kyle Keller. When healthy, Jeff Brigham is the best of all (though he started three games before an oblique strain). Richards (3 W and 33 K) and Lopez (7 W and 42 K) have distanced themselves from the other MiL starters.

no, Jeff Brigham isnt the best of anything aside from the best of our mediocre and old pitching prospects.

                    • This brinson shit is absurd. Batting behind Maybin and Rivera in the lineup just in front of bryan holaday. either give the kid more of an opportunity to succeed or send him the fuck down already. This is horrific management for a young player both in terms of his future performance and his contractual status.

                      • Now this is how they should be playing. Smith looks good and bats are swinging.

                        • Getting Smith for essentially nothing was the type of move that could have helped so fucking much the last 2 seasons. A mid rotation guy who K's a lot of people and is under team control for 6 seasons cheap.

                          • Dietrich has been much better in may than he was in April. over an .800 OPS for the month. hopefully he can keep it up through the deadline and we can get something quality for him.

You can label him a mid-rotation guy, but be aware that opponents are hitting just .192 against Smith. That's a lower number than Sale, Severino, Kluber and lots of other aces.

                                2 months.

That being said you have to be ecstatic with what we've gotten from Smith so far this year, and every time he goes out there, I get more and more confident that this guy is a guy who should be a mainstay in the rotation going forward.
