ive been saying for a few starts and its been pretty obvious given his FIP and strike out rate that his success wouldnt continue to the extent that it has been happening. I remember talking with erick how his stats arent sustainable. Which would be obvious to just about anyone who knows baseball.

    • Figuring a blow up would happen for Jarlin eventually was REALLY going out on a limb.

You must be one of those rare great baseball minds.

wasnt claiming i was going out on a limb. was just saying it was inevitable. But im guessing youre just trying to pick a fight for the sake of picking a fight.

not even watching but good god tyler cloyd is a truly terrible major league pitcher.

        - - - - - - - - - -

and regarding tyler cloyd, its kind of hilarious how infrequently he has pitched. according to milb.com we called him up on april 8th, he was placed on the paternity list from april 30-may3, and has been back since, and he's only pitched 3 times including tonight. we gotta have a different disposable minor league arm like a mcgowan somewhere who wouldnt just be used in blowouts.

        • they gotta be DFA'ing cloyd after tonight right?

and tazawa not long after that? for fucks sake just eat the sunk cost already on him. was an obviously stupid signing at the second he signed it.

I would sure hope so. I would change things to:

Straily, C. Smith, Urena, J. Garcia, Chen

Ziegler, Steckenrider, Barraclough, Wittgren, Tayron, and call up Conley for a pen lefty as a last chance, E. Hernandez as he can't be stashed much longer, and Richards (stuff looks like it plays up in pen). Let Merandy get some more innings in minors. He's younger then Richards.

That means they would dfa Tazawa. Maybe that will happen some time soon. I'm sure Mattingly will pitch him in another high leverage situation soon.

Hurts my feelings that Straily and Chen have to go out there for the wrong reasons - to hopefully make them somewhat marketable (same as Prado, Ziegler and Tazawa). The real trade chips are Steckenrider and Barraclough. Replacements for them are plentiful. Jupiter alone has Schiraldi, Hovis and Keller, all with great numbers. And there are great rotation prospects at New Orleans. On Merandy: the poor walk/strikeout ratio needs attention at Jacksonville - certainly agree with you.

Yep, just get rid of him. Ultimately none of it matters as it's posturing for the July 25thish staff which is going to be something like:

                  Urena
                  C. Smith
                  Alcantara
                  pick 1 of Garcia/Peters/Chen/Conley
                  pick 1 of Gallen/Richards/Meyer/E. Hernandez

                  Steckenrider
                  Wittgren
                  Tayron
                  pick 2 of Gallen/Richards/Merandy/Meyer/E. Hernandez
                  pick 3 of Garcia/Peters/Chen/Conley/O'Grady

Pretty fun that is all internal, as they are clearly going to get assets back for Realmuto/Castro/Bour/Barraclough/Straily/Rojas/Prado/Ziegler/etc. at some point.

Straily has been a very competent SP the last 2 seasons. There is nothing wrong with pitching him. He's probably the best SP in the organization right now, with a floor as # 3. Chen should absolutely have a spot on a 13 man staff. Prado is fine. Ziegler isn't great but has an OK FIP. He should be solidly unspectacular.

Tazawa you can make a marketability argument, but the others are all solid players when healthy and should play. Bit of a stretch here to presumably want to pencil in random minor leaguers.

Super2 threshold is coming up in around 5-6 weeks, so I think we're going to see a lot of moves coming soon.

                  • A more logical floor for Straily might be a 5.51 ERA and 1.63 WHIP (his actual numbers for the second half of last season). Just sayin' ... all in the eyes of the beholder.

your eyes are consistently misevaluating talent to be more than it actually is.

By july/august i want to see a rotation of Jarlin, Smith, Alcantara, Gallen, Richards with a bullpen of Steckenrider, Barraclough, Meyer, Conley, Peters, Chen, Hernandez, and Quijada.

                          • Same record as last year with LESS money spent and we even have a respectable farm system!!

Gotta give the new guys some credit

U guys need to realize this season is about trying to trade guys and get assests nothing more. Why DFA Tazawa now? See if he can figure it out over next 2 months a get something-gotta pay him no matter what

By June/July starts we will be open for business and will be selling lots of guys off

The old regime made perhaps the best deal ... Pablo Lopez and Lukas Schiraldi and others for David Phelps. Time will tell. Might Miami get a similar return for Steckenrider?
