Unless they sweep the Phillies, where they then could use Cabrera for game 1 in the NLDS, it's more like who is the game 1 starter to me (same concept of course). Because Cabrera is pretty set for game 4 of the NLDS in all scenarios here if that game is played. A two round map:

      3 Luzardo
      4 Garrett
      5 Cabrera + pen

7 Bullpen day plus ideally Cabrera and there is no October 5th game
      9 Luzardo
      11 Garrett
      12 Cabrera + pen
14 Luzardo <- Would be great to not have this game either and have Luzardo open the NLCS

Frankly, off days on (maybe 5), 6, 8, and 10 are incredible for the Marlins to be able to pencil in 5 bullpen innings from Puk, Nardi, Robertson, and Scott nearly every game. Throw them into the ground. They all have pretty good innings, except Scott who is getting high but you just have to throw him hard here. I know Puk has the yips, but his statcast is still awesome and they'll have to trust him after the top 3 to be the main bridge to the late 6th/7th. Those guys can carry a real load through these two rounds if they can get some solid Luzardo and Garrett starts to not decimate innings. Or, if they just get absolutely bombed they can save them a game and just have Cueto throw underhanded as who cares.

I'd also swap in Weathers for round 2 and get him into the mix versus Hoeing or Soriano. It is a hail mary at that point, so bet on the upside if you have to use him for significant innings. Weathers seems like a real fiery personality that could rise to an occasion. I'd bet on that versus Hoeing or Soriano all day.

          I could see

          C- Stallings and Fortes
          1b- bell and gurriel
          2b- arraez
          ss- Hampson, Berti, Wendle
          3b- Burger
OF- DLC, Sanchez, Jazz, and Soler

          P- Luzardo, Cabrera, Garrett, Cueto
RP- Puk, Scott, Nardi, Robertson, Chargois, Okert, brazoban, soriano.

That would leave 1 more spot for a pitcher. Maybe im missing someone obvious, but it would seem like weathers would be unavailable this whole series so it wouldnt be him until the division series. Maybe it would be hoeing in a break glass in case of emergency blow out today or tomorrow? Or maybe they carry 14 hitters with edwards being a pinch runner or pinch hit option? For a 3 game series it seems like we would still have a full bullpen so maybe you can carry an extra hitter with it just being a 3 game series.
I think you carry Edwards as a 14th hitter. They don't need a 13th arm. Even short starts fro Luzardo, Garrett, and Cabrera is 15 bullpen innings at most over 3 games over 8 relievers which is not taxing. With an off day before NLCS. Keep the bats.

The only thing I think they might do is keep Hoeing over Soriano and frankly, hopefully that spot doesn't pitch at all.

Yep. Shouldn't change entire offseason. The only "starting" move I'd make is swapping in Hampson for Sanchez against a lefty SP and that's it. Absent injury of course. Jazz always plays just move him down against any lefty.

            • Oh wow WEATHERS IN, CUETO OUT

Love it. Edwards was kept as 14th bat. 12 arms. They kept Soriano over Hoeing.

              • I guess they feel Weathers on short 3 day rest on the 5th is better than Cueto fully rested? That is something. I guess that's his bullpen throw day.

                • wow, that's surprising only because idk if weathers would even be available the whole series given how much he pitched sunday. Cueto being out is a mini surprise, but not really. The guy is a human homerun, so him in philly would be bad news. Plus they have some lefties like Harper and schwarber so it makes sense. glad they kept edwards, especially with arraez hobbled he might be needed to pinch run at some point in a big spot.

                  • You could tell Cueto fell out of favor with the way we used him over the past month.

                    • Just placed the following for fun:

Braves to win World Series +247
                      $40.49 to win $100

                      Marlins to win NLCS +1650
                      $30.31 to win $500.12

Marlins to win World Series +3461
                      $25.72 to win $890.17

If the Braves win it all it covers my Marlins losses.

If the Marlins win it all, I won’t want to jump off a tall building for not putting some money on them.

                      • Just for some perspective, Marlins ended up as:

                        25th best position player core
                        -22nd hitting
                        -29th base running
                        -22nd defense

And that's with Segura, Wendle, Garcia, and Yuli dropping a -3.3 WAR over 1,000 PA, and DLC just a .2 in 600+ PA, so call it -3 WAR over close to 3 full starting players over the season. Yikes.

8th best staff, ahead of all 3 NL division winners.
                        -10th best SP
                        -5th best RP

And that's with surviving 150 innings of -1.5 WAR from Cueto, Hoeing, Lopez, and Smeltzer.

-4.5+ WAR from that and they made the playoffs. That's incredible.
