I'll take anything here even if these are 1.1-2 IP appearances. They are frankly going to throw the relievers into the ground. They all have good appearance numbers throughout the year to throw them all hard, except Scott. Let's add Eury to the vortex of relievers. -
I think Fangraphs is purely basing that off of it being the first day Eury could come off the 15-day IL. Ng made it sound like his season was done when on the broadcast Sunday.Sanchez lifeComment

My biggest concern tonight is Luzardo being too amped up in the 1st inning. He sometimes works too fast in regular season games so hopefully he can keep it deliberate and in control.Comment

if eury was possible to come back, we would have heard it from a local guy or a specific reporter instead of fangraphs. I highly highly doubt he comes back this year, and that's the right call. I said all along he should pitch until he hurts something or is tired, and he literally came out and said in an interview that he was tired from the long season and he was obviously hurt. Maybe being hurt is what led to him thinking he was fatigued, but either way at this point it's not worth it. It sucks that we are going into the playoffs after a 20 year drought with Sandy likely needing TJ and Eury being unavailable and Meyer being out for the year and Rogers barely pitching since April, but it is what it is. You can risk Eury being hurt even more at this point. He pitched 130 innings, you can scale him up to 160-170 next year and then let him loose in 2025. Luzardo, Garrett, and Cabrera plus the backend of Scott, Nardi, Robertson, and Puk are going to have to carry an enormous load if we make it past the phillies.Comment

zach wheeler doesnt necessarily own us, but he does pitch well against us and constantly goes at least 6 with 3 ER's or less, at least this year. IF we win tonight, it will need to be a big time performance from Luzardo plus nardi and scott. Go with the lefty heavy lineup and then pinch hit if they bring in the lefty reliever strahm. DLC should be on the bench.
And yes, lou, i completely forgot about berti. I would normally say start hampson at SS, but berti has been on fire recently. Either way, it simply cannot be wendle just because a righty is on the mound.Comment

Career numbers against wheeler arent bad-
Josh bell has some real success. 10-36 with 3 hr's, 2 2b's, and 2 walks.
Jazz is 3-10 with a homer, a triple, and a few walks.
Berti hasnt been great so i wouldnt be surprised to see hampson startiing at SS. Berti is 3-16 with 3 singles, no walks, and 6 k's.
Soler is 4-14 with no extra base hits but also 2 walks.
As a team, we have a .685 OPS against him, but that includes a braxton garrett 0-2 from a few years back, Stallings 0-5 who shouldnt be playing tonight, plus yuli gurriel 0-6 who wont be starting tonight. Not terrible numbers for a guy who is a really good pitcher. Hopefully we can score some early runs and get the crowd out of it early.
I think jazz is going to have a big first 2 games. He seems to step up in big moments and he is going against 2 righties. Game 3 against suarez might be difficult for him if it gets to that point.Comment

limited sample, but luzardo has had real success against the big phillies hitters. Bohm, who fucking destroys us, is 1-11 against him. Harper 1-9 with 5 k's. JT is 1-13 with 5 k's. Schwarber is 2-9 but hit a homer. Trea Turner is 0-8.
Bryson stott is 4-5 though.Comment

excited to see the roster come out. Want to see if edwards is on the roster. Id imagine hoeing is not.

1b- bell and gurriel
2b- arraez
ss- Hampson, Berti, Wendle
3b- Burger
OF- DLC, Sanchez, Jazz, and Soler
P- Luzardo, Cabrera, Garrett, Cueto
RP- Puk, Scott, Nardi, Robertson, Chargois, Okert, brazoban, soriano.
That would leave 1 more spot for a pitcher. Maybe im missing someone obvious, but it would seem like weathers would be unavailable this whole series so it wouldnt be him until the division series. Maybe it would be hoeing in a break glass in case of emergency blow out today or tomorrow? Or maybe they carry 14 hitters with edwards being a pinch runner or pinch hit option? For a 3 game series it seems like we would still have a full bullpen so maybe you can carry an extra hitter with it just being a 3 game series.

Getting way ahead of myself, but if we go to NLDS, who's the 4th starter is it just a straight bullpen game? Cueto vs. the Braves would be a disaster. Do we think Weathers' run of success and great outing in the final game is for real, and give him a shot?Comment

michael lorenzon left off the roster for the phillies. He has been a disaster since the first 2 starts. they are only carrying 12 pitchers and 14 hitters, so i think we are going to do the same in a 3 game series. the math changes a little for the division series, but makes sense for just a 3 gamer.Comment
