I’m not being snarky I’m just genuinely curious
Brewers lineup isn’t as good as the Phillies, the Phillies top of their rotation is really good as well, and beating the brewers allows us to avoid the braves for an extra round.

phillies have just two fewer wins and have been one of the best teams in the second half. Trea turner was awful for months and is now back to his marlins killing self

they are very similar, and I could see us getting swept by both or beating both, especially in such a small sample size .

Ah yes I forgot about the Braves. Agree 100%

As far as the other stuff about the Phillies starters, I have more confidence in the Marlins bats vs Philly that I do vs Milwaukee.

Absolutely, but the Phillies lineup is pretty terrifying. I don’t think we’ve gotten Alec Bohm out all year, Harper is absurd, trea turner has figured it out, you got Castellanos and schwarber that can change a game with one swing. Feels like we would have to beat them 6-5 as opposed to the brewers who I think we can win games 3-2 against. Both teams are really good though, just two games separate them and only a 4 run difference in their run differential.

        • Ryan Weathers has arrived. I hope he and Hoeing pitch the whole game.

So the playoff rotation is set up something like…..

          3 Garrett
          4 Luzardo
          5 Cabrera + pen

7 Bullpen day (great off days coming up for this, and could use Cabrera if they sweep)
          9 Garrett
          11Luzardo
          12 Cabrera + pen
          14 Bullpen day

          16 Garrett
          17 Luzardo
          18 Cabrera + pen
          20 Bullpen day
          21 Garrett
          23 Luzardo
          24 Cabrera + pen

          27 Garrett
          28 Luzardo
          30 Cabrera + pen
          31 Bullpen day
          1 Garrett
          3 Luzardo
4 Everyone still alive, which I will not be

          • Conner Joe, who raked vs the Marlins in game one of this series, has seen Weathers before ... with three hits, two of them homers, in four at bats.

                  • Wheeler and Nola going game 1 and 2, and then I’d guess Suarez goes game 3 since he owns us. We are going with luzardo, Garrett, then I’d assume Cabrera. Going to be a really hard series to win with how they have been playing

I'd have gone Garrett first to get Luzardo an extra day of rest (he's around +70 innings from last year), but it doesn't matter too much ultimately. You can do that same SP chart above just flip flopping Luzardo and Garrett. It really sucks four of their top seven SP (including Meyer) are out and all of a sudden Cueto, Hoeing, Soriano, and Brazoban are their replacements. What a world of difference there.

I'm wondering who is going to be ditched from the roster though. Weathers is an obvious first as he won't have availability. And then they have to shed one of Yuli? Wendle? Edwards? Keep one less pitcher (Hoeing?) and a larger bench (they can do that right? You just can't carry extra pitchers?). I'd probably carry one less pitcher for this series as it's just three games and the pen can handle 12-15 innings over 9 guys. Use Yuli for a catcher pinch hit as needed, Wendle for late game Arraez replacement if they are up, Hampson if they try and throw a lefty against Sanchez, and Edwards for base running and if anyone gets hurt.

                          • I'm going to be watching the Marlins in the playoffs, with fans tomorrow. This shit is wild.

I'm of the mindset that anything positive we do in the playoffs is gravy, with the state of the rotation, it would be cool to make a run though.

At least they are throwing right handers. They've beaten Nola twice this year FWIW.

Phillies are pretty neutral as a hitting team. Castellanos, Bohm, and Harper are really hitting LHP even if Schwarber, Stott, Marsh, and Turner are weaker against it. Conversely Harper, Marsh, and Schwarber are really annihilating RHP, and Turner is better against it.

If we have to pick our poison, I'd rather deal with Castellenos and Bohm versus LHP versus Schwarber, Marsh, and Turner vs RHP. So it's set up best as possible with the Marlins only having really 2 lefty starters left. I can see Luzardo, Garrett, Scott, Puk, Nardi, and Okert throwing over 20 innings this series. Just pumping lefties at them, saving Robertson for late games, and Chargois is going to have to step up and presumably get out Castellanos and Bohm in a crucial situation. It stinks they can't carry Moore. Thanks Cleveland.

Should be fun. We're in bonus time for me so I'm just happy with the season. Would love to win this series so Bruce gets a home game to maybe psychologically get him on board to spend a little more next year. I'm with Namaste, that place will be packed if they get a home game and would be a nice moment for the players.

Fun fact, I got kicked out of a Bennigans in 2003 when Kerry Wood hit that playoff home run. Let's get weird.
