      • man, the cubs schedule is stupid easy the rest of the way. gotta hope they overtake the brewers. Brewers schedule is hard.

Marlins will control their own destiny there playing them 7 times here on out.

And then they'll have to hope the Cubs and Brewers take out the Reds, and the Dodgers and Giants take out the DBacks and surging Padres.

I imagine DBacks fans are as frustrated as we are with their team not getting a major SP and see San Diego creeping up with a clear path to the wild card with only CHC/Mil and Miami in their way. Which isn't exactly insurmountable.

          • Huge to come back and win the series there.

Hopefully that rights the ship and we start playing better again. Just keep winning series!

They go 6-6 here, it's frankly a miracle.

              Yankees
              Astros
              @ Dodgers
              @ Padres

They should skip their 5th SP when they can against the Dodgers using 17th/24th off days to manage time and ideally set up Cabrera for two Nationals starts thereafter with Cueto just becoming a 1 time through guy. They gotta survive this and not get crushed.

After these four series, they play 14 against non-contenders, 15 against contenders (including 7 against the Brewers and 3 against the Phillies which may be huge to their bottom line), and the final three games are 3 additional losses against the Braves in mid-September which thankfully for Marlins fans, coincides with Beerfest and a Tito's sponsorship to drown that away quickly.

Don't get killed next 2 weeks. This is the stretch we've been (or I've been) worried about since May.

I think the Cubs will win the Central and it won’t be very close.

be nice if the Rockies can steal one right now

                • Burger is 5th in Barrel Rate in MLB this year. He’s gonna hit some big HRs for us down the stretch this year.

i completely agree, i just hope they can find 1 more notch from him as a hitter and turn him into a slightly more complete hitter. Obviously, these are big improvements, but he is currently at a 30% career K rate and a 7 % walk rate. If he can bring those down and up to say 25 and 10, that is huge. I just dont want to see him be an even more extreme soler. That's still a really good, impactful hitter, but if he can become a more complete hitter, that's a home run trade. He has graded out super poorly at 3b, but from what ive seen in the week he's been here, it looks good enough. We're at the point where we're just looking for him to not be a complete albatross defensively. If he can be below average, that's fine by me. Im more concerned with his improvements offensively. I can definitely live with a team next year that, before the offseason starts, is starting with an offensive core of Jazz, Arraez, Burger, Bell for next year, Sanchez, and i guess DLC. We just desperately need to find at the very least average SS and C, and preferably an impact guy at one of those. Hopefully burger can take the next step, this team really needs it.

                    • Couldn't Burger just be shifted to LF? The only concern would be his prior injuries but you would think there'd be more wear and tear at 3B.

I imagine the plan is mostly 3B next year, and then he'll float 1B/LF/DH for years with Arraez and Berry being the other two predominant players for those three spots. Pencil'd in of course

It reminds me of the mid 2000 tigers. Their lineup was effectively (it swayed over the years, but this was for the most part):

3 stars - Guillen, Magglio, Granderson, Pudge, Sheffield
3 solid dudes - Polanco, Casey, D. Young, Infante
3 guys who hit a lot of HR batting 6-9 - Inge, Thames, Monroe, Pena

Burger falls into that last bucket of course. He'll be fine, but they need that 1 star to add to Arraez and Jazz, or get 3 "middle" bucket guys. The last bucket is likely full with Burger, DLC, and Sanchez.

Who cares. He’s a mediocre pitcher. Would he have helped us? Yes. If you count on him? Good luck. I hope we face him going down the stretch
